“You can’t just come in here and feed on my guests Edward! Don’t you have any respect at all? What are you even doing here?”
He sits back in a chair, stretching luxuriantly. “I was invited.” Admittedly, the nature of the invitation had been somewhat different.
“As for what I was doing here - isn’t that rather obvious?”
He hears her, paying her no mind and finish up his meal, drinking the last drops. Only then does he turns, licking the last bit of blood from his lips. Lets his meal fall to the ground.
"Cosette." An amused, satisfied smile crosses his face. "And how exactly have I offended you this time?”
Noah carefully watched Ed’s expression. He never knew what to expect from the other, but the response received only made him smile humorlessly.
“Frankly, I couldn’t care less what you think regarding my state of paranoia,” he states, using air quotes around the word paranoia. “I just want you to understand where you stand in this situation.”
“Don’t bite off more than you can chew, Shaw. You’ll eventually choke and I’ll be right here to help the process,” he added as a threat. One that he meant, of course. Noah could only hope Edward could see it.
“So again: reflect upon actions and act like a man of your age. Not a blood thirsty newborn,” he finished, the condescending tone never leaving his voice.
He’d never liked it when they took that tone with him, and he narrowed his eyes.
"That’s what you never understand,” he said, showing his teeth. “You think I don’t think things through? I do. Not everyone who stays clear of your pack is a fool.”
“The warlock, though. I am sorry about that.” His voice oozed insincerity as he met Noah’s eyes. “An accident.”
Keep calm, Noah kept telling himself. It was taking a lot more self control than he wanted to admit at the moment to not break Edward’s neck. “Look, I don’t expect someone of your likes to understand the alliance I’ve created with these witches,” he responded, his voice extremely condescending – seeing as words were his only weapon right now.
“But I do have to ask you to respect it. If you’re not in our pack, we need you to leave them alone. Stop asking questions, stop treating them like blood bags, and stop looking for excuses for me to drop whatever alliance we have at the moment. You know it is not in your best interest to do that right now.”
He let his eyebrows raise just slightly, his mouth twitching to the side at the word ‘alliance’. Really.
He set the glass.
“Now, why would I want to endanger our alliance? Seems to me you’re jumping at shadows, my friend. Getting paranoid in your old age?”
“

Noah tried harder than he initially expected to not roll his eyes at Edward’s display of concern over a glass and his rather smug expression
“Then I’m sure you can relate why I was a little frustrated to find out one of my warlocks almost bleeding to death from a puncture wound in his neck.”
He wiped the glass with a towel. ”One of your pets got in trouble? Maybe you should have put a sign around his neck. Property of Noah King.”
“As if you’d worry for trivial things like this,” Noah responded, putting the glass down with minimal force. However, at the eyes of a human it sounded as if he’d put the glass down forcefully in order to prove a point, which – granted was what he wanted – but Noah knew Edward would notice he barely used any of his strength. “I’m glad you’re finally out and about though, I need to speak with you.”
He picked up the glass, making a show of inspecting it for damage.
“I always care for what’s mine. Ah, yes - is there something you need my help with?” A quirk of an eyebrow, as if he didn’t know. As if he hadn’t been waiting for this.
"Careful - if you break that, I’m going to have to ask you to pay for it.”
O Brother Where Art Thou | Edward & Levi
Levi crossed his arms across his chest. Edward was a nice guy a while ago, but something had changed. In both of them. He was sure that that was the case. We both just went off the rails at the same time. “To you I am holding myself back, but you have gone too far,” Levi frowned with distain in his eyes.
“I miss the friends we were. I miss the talks, the drinking, the women. I don’t miss you sinking your teeth into every thing with a pulse and being so fucking smug about it,” Levi said, poison on his tongue. If it was a fight Edward was looking for, that’s what I will give him. But I hope to God that it does not.
He hadn’t meant to become angry. No, he would take the higher ground, be the older and wiser vampire, taunt Walker with what he had lost and try to tempt the young man back into the fold.
But this was like sinking back into a familiar rhythm, as though it was only yesterday that they'd had an argument like this -
Only yesterday that he'd seen Walker last look at him this contemptuously, as though Edward, for all his years, was nothing.
He even dared to say that he regretted the friendship. Edward had honored him, though Walker had been nothing but a newborn whelp at the time and he one of the oldest vampires that walked this earth, and Walker threw it in his face and pretended to be regretful.
He snarled, his fists clenching. Then, he turned away and paced.
"And tell me, why shouldn't I be satisfied with myself?" He faced Levi again, spreading his arms out to indicate their surroundings. Look - this world. All his, ripe for the plucking. "I'm strong. Stronger than my prey. Why shouldn't I take what I want?"
"How many of those humans you try to care about would give a damn about you if they knew what you were? How many of them would hold themselves back if they had your gifts?" He laughed. "Do you really think, even after all this time, any of their lives are worth saving?"
“Why should I not go into business? I ave quite a bit of experience with it now. I am a lady darling I do not feed on my guests.”
“Never? Come on - are you really telling me you’ve never even had a taste?”

“Why would you be surprised to see me here sweetheart?”
"You, running a B&B? I never expected you to go into business.." A pause.
"Though I suppose it does mean you can feed on the guests."
O Brother Where Art Thou | Edward & Levi
Levi swallowed hard. Edward had not changed a bit. He should know my feelings by now. Or is he just fucking with me. You’d think I would be able to tell by now.
“I have been doing fine by myself,” Levi tilted his head and rubbed his neck. “I don’t need or want to hunt like you do,” He stood straight and looked Edward in the eyes.
They had been friends once. They drank together and hunted together. Their split came shortly after Levi’s revelation. When he say Ed killing and hunting for sport, it made him sick. He has no reverence for human life. Once Levi stopped drowning his memories in booze, they took over his whole brain. Sitting under a tree in Central Park in 1923, Levi replayed his mother’s death over and over in his head.
Since then, he had never killed another human. But Edward had.
He looked away, rolling his eyes. Not that much change, then. The same sanctimonious stick stuck up his ass. If Levi had stuck to that resolution for about a century, though, it must have meant that he was serious about being a "virtuous vampire". This thing wasn't just a phase - which surprised him. Most of their kind that hunted as he and Levi never stopped for so long - if they even bothered to try at all. Edward sighed; it looked like he wouldn't be getting the satisfaction of Levi admitting that Edward was right any time soon. "You're still holding yourself back?" he asked. His eyes narrowed. "You don't miss the old days at all, at all?"
“Yes - though right now I don’t have a name so I guess I can’t come to you to help right now, Ed.”
“What do they look like? I know quite a few of the people who come here - I might still be able to help you.”
“I know I’ve lived here for some time, but some of the names you Americans have for things is literally ridiculous.”
"Come on - they aren't that bad, are they?"
“Sorry. Did you say something?”
"Just that I'm surprised to see you here, darling."

“Are you looking for someone?”
He had died but now was risen, and he said the words the dead know, In a voice like wind and water. He said, Heaven is not waiting for the good and the pure and the gentle There’s no punishment eternal, there’s no Hell for the ungodly Nor is God as you imagine -
