Creating an inventory of costumes or props requires planning, time, and energy. At the 2015 National Conference, Margaret Messick talked with attendees about how having an inventory system for your theatre program can make your job easier in the costume shop or the props department!

Part four is the concluding section of the Assessing with Standards podcast. It offers a fifteen-step approach to building a Model Cornerstone Assessment based on one’s own curriculum and student needs.

Machine is often used as a warm-up or ice breaker, but it is also a great tool for creating student devised work. Using both Viewpoints and Machine, we can create an original piece of theatre. Repetition, shape, gesture, levels, and tempo can develop characters, scenes, and a better understanding of how a story unfolds.

In part one, presenter Jim Palmarini offers an overview of the structural elements of the National Core Arts Standards and reviews the digital workbook materials that participants use for the embedded exercises.

Laurilea McDaniel and Andy Jaramillo gave a great workshop at the 2015 EdTA National Conference on “Understanding by Design” or UBD. UBD is an approach to lesson planning that replaces the mystery of daily classroom activities with an engaging, purpose-driven, and active planning process.

Singer, actress, author, and keynote speaker, Sandra Joseph was the star of the Conference’s closing program. Sandra holds the distinction of being the longest-running leading lady in Broadway’s longest-running show. For ten years and more than 1,300 performances, Sandra starred in The Phantom of the Opera as Christine Daaé.

Sandra sang a few numbers and spoke with the group about her experiences as a performer and her love and respect for the teachers she had growing up, who help her achieve her dream of being on Broadway.  Along with The New York Times bestselling author Caroline Myss, Joseph is the co-author/creator of the audio teaching program Your Creative Soul: Expressing Your Authentic Voice. She has been seen on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, Today, The Early Show, Dateline, The View, Law and Order, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, One Life to Live, and As the World Turns.
