Iâm not super fond of the Radiant Seven titles for Snow White and Aurora. âSelfless Princessâ and âPure Princessâ feel too nonspecific and could apply to several of the Disney Princesses. I think âThe Fairest of Allâ and âThe Sleeping Beautyâ would be a better fit, since those are titles theyâre already associated with and would be more recognizable.

Before I make my own comments, I'd just like to clarify that the titles "Selfless Princess" and "Pure Princess" are not official localizations or definitive translations for Snow White and Aurora's Radiant Seven titles. These are the best approximations I came up with based on my own reading and interpretation of the JP text. Let me explain!
Snow White's title is ć¸
ĺťăŞĺ§Ť (seiren na hime). ć¸
ĺť (seiren) is a term that refers to integrity, honesty, uprightness, and unselfishness. It can also refer to⌠purity, more specifically having a pure mind or heart, one free from selfish greed or the temptation to abuse power for personal gain. I chose to go with âselflessnessâ for Snow White because the stories told about her place an emphasis on her kindness and willingness to help others, even when she herself was in a bad situation, without expecting anything in return. I feel that âselflessâ best fits this historical view of Snow White in the Twstverse.
I think itâs fine to give this particular label to Snow White, as the historical context for it is sufficient enough of an explanation for the title. Selflessness isnât just being kind (which can apply to many Disney princesses). Itâs the extra clarification that Snow chose to remain kind when many would have chosen to put themselves or their own preservation first. âThe Fairest of Allâ might be a confusing title in-universe when the Evil Queen is already called the âFairest Queenâ. Does that not imply the queen is the fairest one and not Snow White? There canât be two fairest ones; it may contradict the Fairest Queenâs accomplishments of doing absolutely anything to stay the fairest of them all.
Aurora's title is ç´ç˛ăŞĺ§Ť (junsui na hime). ç´ç˛ (junsui) means genuine, innocent, unmixed, or⌠pure. Do you see why there would be an issue here? We have two figures whose titles could be translated as âPure Princessâ because the terms used for them can be synonymous with âpureâ/âpurityâ. The other problem with Aurora is that I donât think any of these adjectives suit her, as her historical importance is framed around the idea of holding onto hope. Her story has nothing to do with being innocent or genuine⌠And unmixed just makes no sense in this context. I defaulted to âpureâ because that word seemed to be the most broadly applicable to Aurora. One could argue that âpureâ refers to her unadulterated hope⌠I guess??
Now, âPure Princessâ I definitely feel is extremely nonspecific and could apply to basically anyone with good virtues (which the Disney Princess lineup is marketed as). And again, itâs not very⌠Aurora.
Something I noticed is that the Great Seven have titles which donât describe their characters at all. âQueen of Heartsâ, âKing of Beastsâ, âSea Witchâ, âSorcerer of the Sandsâ, âFairest Queenâ, âLord of the Underworldâ, and âThorn Fairyâ just describe what they are, where theyâre from, or what they rule over. Meanwhile, all the Radiant Seven have titles which describe their personalities are. âInnocent Adventurerâ, âProud Lionessâ, âSteadfast Princessâ, âUninhibited Princessâ, âSelfless Princessâ, âSolitary Beautyâ, âPure Princessâ. I think this is intentionalâit shows that RSA values whatâs inside, whereas NRC values power and displays of dominance. Based on these patterns, âSleeping Beautyâ would actually not fit RSAâs pattern of titles because âSleepingâ doesnât describe Auroraâs personality in any way, but rather shifts the focus to the specific thing she does.
I think Twst should have maybe gone with different adjectives instead of falling back on the titles Snow White and Aurora are already known by in our irl pop culture. I still believe âselflessâ works for Snow White, but Aurora definitely needs something else. Itâs just very difficult to conjure something up for her because she does very little in her film and doesnât have a particular trait that helps her stand out from the other Disney Princesses. I guess âHopeful Princessâ may have worked??
