--Biography
Eadyโs story has always been written by someone else. First it was her parents, elite real estate brokers in sunny Los Angeles, who had planned out their daughterโs life long before she arrived. They knew what schools she would attend, what extracurriculars she would excel at, and who and what she would be. She had a script from the moment she was born, and she memorized her lines, and marks with perfection.ย
Following in her motherโs footsteps, Eady was to be a dancer. Trained in ballet, and proficient in contemporary. She would get high marks at Sacred Heart Academy and with enough hard work she would be accepted into the Juilliard School. What she did from there was somewhat murky. A professional dancer? An instructor? Choreographer? Her mother wasnโt quite sure because she herself had never made it that far, having quit due to a chronic knee injury.ย
That was the plan, and Eady was poised to see it through, having genuinely fallen in love with dance, and having a deep seeded and no- altogether-healthy desire to please her parents. And she was on track. Her grades were remarkable, not because she was the brightest and the sharpest, but simply because she worked tirelessly at being perfect. She got good grades in exchange for parties and trips to the mall. In exchange for real friends. And dance was effortless. She loved it, truly. She thought about it in the quiet moments, in the dreamlike silence before sleep.ย
Alas, the producers got a hold of the script, they took one look at it and with a big red marker they cut, they scribbled in the margins, they rewrote. FATHER TAKES TO UNDERGROUND POKER they write. OVER A NUMBER OF YEARS HE DEVELOPS AN ADDICTION TO GAMBLING it says in big red letters. SOON, HE HAS ACCRUED A SUBSTANTIAL DEBT TO THOSE MORE POWERFUL THAN HE. You see, the problem with new money is that thereโs no one to bail you out when you spend too much. Thereโs no well to dip into. Itโs tied up in houses, cars, and college funds. The glitz and the glam is little more than rhinestones and sequences when you find yourself hundreds of thousands in the hole.ย
So what is there to do? If old money turns to parents and grandparents for a bail out, where does young money turn? DAUGHTERโS DREAMS OF JULLIARD PUT ON HOLD, MONEY DOESNโT GROW ON TREES.ย
No, it grows on studio lots, on sets, and on locations. It comes from coming of age films that fuel a generation of angsty teens. A publicity relationship or two and suddenly Eadyโs a star. And from there itโs more blockbusters. Money makes more money, and really, wasnโt this the better script in the end? It has pizzazz, intrigue, emotion. It has tough decisions and sacrifice and love lost, and a life that could have been. Which is always better than the life you really live.ย
Eady paid her parentโs debt, and in return she got the life she never asked for.
