Anxiety Necklace

Arduino wearable tech project by Laura Ospina is a necklace that changes colour based on mood using a temperature sensor at the back of the neck:

This necklace displays a person’s anxiety level according to body temperature. There is a temperature sensor placed on the back of the neck to get accurate readings. According to these readings, the RGB LED placed within the necklace locket will light up in different colours.

For this project, the lilypad Arduino was used. It is also placed at the back of the necklace. This is a piece that accentuates your feelings as an extension of yourself through the light in the necklace.

Only a sheet of ice protects you from falling 1000 feet down this Abyss

Photographer Aaron Huey, who is on assignment for National Geographic, recently shared a picture of a frighteningly deep hole on the Lower Ruth Glacier. The only thing stopping people from plummeting down the 1000 feet drop into the ground is a sheet of ice. One crack, though.

Of course, the majority of the responding tweets were from men denying the idea that there’s any sexism in the tech industries, saying that women’s individual stories and all the statistics about low female-to-male ratios and high occurrences of harassment are all biased or exaggerated, or else admitting that yeah, all that’s true, but women just need to be patient and wait for things to get better, someday, somehow, without any need for anyone to acknowledge that it’s a problem, much less do anything about it.

Omnipresenz

Startup project aiming to turn telepresence as a service to guide people as ‘avatars’ in the real world from a computer. They have launched an Indiegogo campaign - video embedded below:

It’s a new way of experiencing reality. Through Omnipresenz you can control the actions of an human Avatar (a teleguided actor/performer that represents you in the distance) located in a specific area of a big city anywhere around the world.

This telepresence tourist makes a live stream online of all of what he sees and hears, while the interaction with you this avatar is done trough an interface similar to a first person video game.

With this online system, not only your eyes and legs can be anywhere you want, but your emotions and decisions to guide and control an unique interactive social experience that can really make an immediate impact local contexts.

I think that some of the terms used here have been stretched a little to sell the idea, but I can certainly see a telepresence workforce in various vocations in the very near future. With recent issues regarding death via policing, systems like this would be necessary.
