Coffee is my life.

Yeah, I know how it is. Almost ended up the same way, actually. That was a weird point in time, let me tell you. It’s ‘cause you got that sorta aura about you. Always did. I always knew if any of you guys were gonna get out of there, it’d be you. Hell, for a while I thought you’d get out before I did, being older and all that. 

Really? I guess you were the only one who had any hope on me. It took a time for me, I was scared to leave my grandma alone but I needed to live my life and I was not going to get anywhere if I stayed back there in Queens. Now I'm here, with my pocket full of dreams, ya know?

Well, we made it this far. That’s gotta count for something. But what about you? It’s been…almost five years now. Fill me in. 

Me? I've been around, bad situations, good situations. I maneged my life in the hoods pretty well to be only 5'2'' tall. Many of the boys... my friends, they... well you know how is it with drugs and shootings. I needed to get out of there, and my grandma had the money for me to come here to college.

How could you forget? Free food everywhere!

Don’t apologize. It’s in the past, anyway. What’s done is done. Yeah, I would have preferred for things to have been different, but maybe it’s for the best that they weren’t. Even the, uh, not so great things that happened after I left. Yeah, I’d kinda like to change them if I could, but I wouldn’t be me without them.

I’d rather explore the world than be trapped in the typical rich kid bubble. I ain’t about that life.

Well, when you realize the people you live with don’t care if you die, it kinda makes it hard to stick around.

Yeah, I always knew I’d end up running off. Didn’t think I’d be 13 when I did, but whatever. Guess that’s another thing I got from my mom. Or maybe my dad. I dunno.

I…There was nothing left for me there. So I just kinda headed west, as far away as I could get. Ended up here about five months or so ago.

It doesn't surprise me, you know? You always had that kind of "runaway kid" vibe with you.
