Are we gonna talk about how Mai was absolutely mentally abusive to Zuko in the Smoke and Shadow graphic novel?

I don't care if he's your ex and you're with a new man now, you don't go around the ENTIRE TIME he's trying to help you get your baby brother back and tell him his date ideas when you were with him sucked,

that he should reserve a tomb for himself, that he's no different from his genocidal ancestors,

keep shoving your new relationship down his throat at every opportunity,

and also lie about your father which is the thing you broke up with him for in the first place!! Especially after your father tried to KILL him and his family.

I never liked this ship to begin with and this installment validated my dislike.

He ran into Jin at the fountain again...and he needs to run into her again. Permanently. Because Jin is wholesome and kind and good.

O boy, it looks like another person can't keep their ship hate out of the ship tags! As ever I have written extensively about Mai and Maiko, including about how Mai lying about her father parallels Zuko's own terrible behavior with regards to his own father, and don't wish to reiterate my arguments here, but I have one thing to say. And that is, as an abuse victim, I hate how "abusive" has become the new fandom buzzword. Your ex mocking your terrible date ideas is not abuse*!

*Unless there is a pre-existing relationship of fear and control in which normal interactions are sufficiently coded and laden with subtextual meaning, as to function as a way to slip controling and punishing behavior under the noses of the people around who are insufficiently inculcated in the dynamics and secret signals of the relationship in question. My abuser loved this tactic. But there is nothing about snarking about your ex's terrible date choices that is inherently abusive, and Zuko does not react like an abuse victim recieving covert punishment, he reacts like an ex boyfriend being mocked on his morbid choice of date by his morbid ex girlfriend. So can we all stop going "She was kind of mean, which makes it abuse"? All this does is downplay actual abuse and the trauma it can cause.

A screenshot of OP's tags have been included, since people I have called out this way have edited their tags afterword, (as they should!) and other people who didn't know this have come onto the post to tell me I was wrong or lying about their initial tags.

Since attackfish seems to have deleted their response and I can't find the original reply, I'll say this:

A. I can tag my posts however I choose.

B. This is my own personal observation and if you don't like it then just scroll on by and shut up.

C. As someone whose ex husband did EXACTLY this kind of thing (constant little nit picks, comparing to exes, lying about things, constantly pointing out flaws), IT IS ABUSIVE. Purposely doing these things to harm someone is abusive.

Or are you telling me that my own experience with this sort of thing is invalid?

The Shapeless One = Jury?

I was recently re-reading The Case Study of Vanitas, and in Memoire 11: Deux Ombres, Noé speaks with the Shapeless One, who tells him that, rather than discerning whether or not the Book of Vanitas was a threat to Vampires, his intent was for Noé to engage with the Tale of people surrounding the Book of Vanitas.

This interested me, because in Pandora Hearts, Jury revealed that each world was a Tale, with the world of Pandora Hearts being an eventuality surrounding the existence of Glen Baskerville. Given the Teacher’s closeness to Queen Faustina, as well as his identity as the Shapeless One, I theorize that the Teacher is the Jury of the world of The Case Study of Vanitas, with the existence of Vampires being the eventuality which defines this world.

RP is very demanding and requires a lot of time that I honestly don’t have...especially now that I’m an “essential” employee during all this pandemic hullaballoo.

He’d grown up with Dominique, with Louis, with their grandfather, but it was a rare thing for Veronica to ever show her face at the home Aberoigne...and he was glad for it. The woman was a force to be reckoned with and a frightening individual to be in the presence of, not to mention her absolute hatred for the entire human race (prejudice was something Noe was unable to turn a blind eye from). He felt his spine crawl at the sound of her voice when she had arrived, a sense of dread fell on him like a stone...Vanitas, she would kill him without hesitation!

Somehow, though, they’d all managed to hold their own so far and it was obvious that their rebellion was only increasing her enjoyment of the situation; she was on the hunt and easy prey was boring. So he put himself between the vampiress and his newfound companion, red eyes narrowed...this was incredibly foolish, he knew, but he was never known as the brightest light in the street. Another comment about the stench of human was made and he flinched slightly at the pure hatred dripping in her tone so he’d responded, chiding her for being so dramatic...after all, he knew for a fact that Vanitas smelled enticing, not repulsive.

“So I have.” he responded to her recognition of him, “And you haven’t changed a bit, Veronica. Still as narrow minded as you ever were.” Perhaps it was stupid of him to prod the beast, but he was more than a little shaken by the events of the evening and in no mood for any more violence.
