That first day we were trying to get Dan’s eyes to be green because that’s what they are in the book. And Dan was wearing contact lenses. He was allergic to them and after we made the decision to remove them, but the first day we tried to work through it. So for the last scene when he’s saying good-bye to Hagrid you can see almost his eyes tearing and his eye a little bit swollen and it feels like he’s about to cry. He probably was but he never complained. We removed the contacts and he’s never had green eyes since.

Everything everything - Nicola yoon-book review
3/5 Only a 3 because I found the book very predictable. The main character was good she obviously loved her mum a lot and completely trusted her so was heartbroken when she found out her mum was lying but because she was such a nice girl she still stayed with her for a bit. It's sad what happened to her mum but by trying to protect her daughter she has sort of doomed her anyway because her immune system is none existent. Olly was a good love interest and seemed like a genuine guy which was lucky for her. I liked there little love story a typical you want what you can't have thing. Overall quite a good book but easy to predict

Feed- M. T. Anderson- review
"We went to the moon to have fun, but the moon turned out to completely suck." Titus doesn't think much of the moon. But then Titus doesn't think much period. He's got his "feed"-an internet implant linked directly into his brain - to do his thinking for him. The Titus meets Violet, a girl who cares what happening to the world, and challenges everything Titus and his friends hold dear. A girl who decides to fight the feed... 4/5 This is set in the future when consumerism has taken over so much that it has ruined the planet. What I found a little bit irritating is that it doesn't say that outright but let's you assume that's what happened. This book left a lot of holes and I feel like I could do with a prequel to explain how everything happened. Other than that it was a good book, the characters language took a few chapter to get used to but it was quite easy to get. They came across as shallow to me but also they were only like that because their feeds seemed to be programmed to make them not ask too many questions but to always try and solve any problems by buying loads of crap. It seemed to me to be a cautionary tale. The idea of having the internet in you brain in a chip isn't that far off a possibility to be honest and the way the planet is going it might be ruined soon. The people also started getting lesions which meant they were getting ill, but no one knew why basically because the government didn't want them to know. And because the school didn't really seem to learn them anything because they could just get it all from their feeds they all seemed pretty stupid to me. A little favourite part was finding out that link one of the characters was a clone of Abraham Lincoln which I thought was very funny
Counting by 7s- holly Goldberg Sloan- book review
5/5
Willow is a child genius who is adopted but whose adopted parents die at the beginning of this book. It was a fantastic book and I loved that it told the story through more than one point of view and how many people can to love this girl and how she helped them without even meaning to. It was heartbreaking to experience this girls grief but I thought it did so in an excellent way and it showed how she started to care about things again when she though she never would.

4/5 We are the tree. We are the snow. We are the winter. We are the peace. We are the rage. Cut off from civilisation by the harsh winter of northern Sweden, the Stromberg family shelter in their old plantation house. There are figures lurking within the ancient pine forests and they're closing in. With nothing but four walls between the Strombergs and the evil that's outside, they watch and wait for the snows to melt. But when signs appear that an even greater danger is about to strike, it becomes harder and harder to distinguish reality from illusion. All they've got to do is stay sane and survive the winter... First of all this book had excellent creep factor, akin to 'the shining'. It used the isolation factor to its best potential especially since at first there was other people there so as the narrator comes to dread their leaving so do you. It uses excellent use of folk lore and for me that really makes it a better book because it could have easily been werewolves but it wasn't. The housekeeper was a massive creep and I would have sacked her. I liked that the narrator sort of grows up a bit, like when she realised her mum was already ill and that she had to try and be a better person. Using children is always extra creepy for me so this was excellent and I loved the little paragraphs before the chapters thy have the trees a voice even though they were horrible it really helped add to the tension. The ending was frustrating but I quite liked how it let you decide what you think might have happened. Were they insane or were the children real and came for them? Did the housekeeper do something else that made them all go outside and just get lost forever? A great book especially for younger teens.

Throne of glass- Sarah j Maas- book review
4/5 stars To start with this only got 4 stars instead of three because the sub characters were good. I absolutely could not stand the main character! She was irritating and thought of herself as an amazing beautiful person but to me she came across as big headed and a bit of an idiot. For example whilst being covered in crap from the mine where she was serving a prison sentence she still thought she could seduce the me she just need a quick wash (really??). She redeemed herself a bit but only because I thought other characters pulled the goodness out of her otherwise this book would have been terrible. The plot was ok but not super original. I've read similar books where I liked the main character more (poison study by Maria V. Snyder). It vaguely pointed at the main character being some descendent of a fay queen or something but that wasn't really the main story. The main story was she had to defeat other prisoners etc to become the kings right hand man for killing basically and the she would earn her freedom. She hates the king because he killed her people so I'm not sure how that will work out for her. The people in the contest were obviously not as good as her from the beginning and she was told to lie about who she was so she could sneak up there. One guy even had to use magic (strictly forbidden) to win her and he didn't or it would have been a stand alone book. I actually like the plot and the other characters were quite good and even the main character was so much of a douche at the end and I will probably read the rest of them. Especially because it hints at so much more magic and fun things in future books.
Review-when she woke by Hillary Jordan
3/5 stars
A dystopia aimed at grown ups, I think this is an excellent novel and I actually prefers it over a lot of the YA dystopias just because I think it looks at better issues and things that are relevant today more than YA do.
In this book criminals skin is dyed different colours in accordance to their crimes. This is because the government couldn’t afford to keep everyone in prisons so elected to do this instead except for the worst people.
Hannah is a red because she had an abortion, this is considered murder because there was a disease that made people infertile so obviously abortions are frowned upon.
The plot was good as it followed Hannah after she had been coloured and how people treated her differently and how she started to see the world differently sort of growing up even though she was 25 (26?).
The only reason I rated it 3 and not 4 is because literally everything she did was down to her religious beliefs and I started to find it irritating after a while. She protected the man who’s baby it was because he was a very famous reverend and it would have ruined his life. Too me this was extremely weak of the character and annoyed me as well.
I love that Canada is against chroming (colouring the skin) and is basically the only safe place for Hannah to go. The supporting characters were ok but some were easily forgettable.
I liked how it showed how people profited from this chroming and that some people were just horrible even though they were religious.
Overall a good plot and a nice change of pace for the typical dystopias where teenagers are the only survivors.
