hey boss, good to see ya. yeah i’m doing okay, except the government has people working around the clock trying to come up with a legal defense for executing me and my lovers in the streets, and like once a week i check the news and some legal protection we used to have has been rolled back or some Black trans woman has been jailed for self defense or some lady with more money than seems possible is personally funding a hate campaign against me and then every single day i have to log onto this stupid fucking laptop and look at my emails and as though it’s not bad enough, you have the audacity to call me a man? as though that doesn’t make you, in some way, complicit in all of this? as though failure to respect transsexuals doesn’t make you complicit in the cultural backlash against us? as though you feel really really really safe and confident that there’s not a level of upset i could get where you’re the straw that breaks the camels back and i slit my wrists in front of you?

today is the misgendering day apparently and it’s insane that i (we) have to just. take it at work. because that’s what is polite and professional. and i’m not allowed to go into my coworker’s office and say “what will it take for you to start gendering me correctly” and i’m not allowed to respond to students and say “please be mindful of the clearly stated pronouns and honorifics in my signature” and before you say “you’re allowed to say those things!” no i’m not. i promise i am not.

the argument i often get is “people don’t know that it bothers you if you don’t correct them” and i don’t know how to make you understand how it feels to have to ask politely over and over again to be treated with the same respect that people unthinkingly grant to dogs.

got carried away there but uhh i really do think that well meaning liberals who nonetheless misgender us are complicit in all of this. i asked you to do the bare minimum, treat me with the smallest modicum of respect, and you couldn’t even do that right. they’re calling us terrorists and you can’t even call me a woman.
