@sammarkham I already talked about how mechanics like stats, moves and abilities are a simplified version of the real world. But what about evolution? There are three major types of evolution: those triggered by level, those triggered by a stone, and those triggered by a trade. Let’s begin with level evolutions, the biggest group.

POKEMON HOMEBREW RPG: Dungeons & Dragonairs, an Introduction

I love the balance between spontaneity & preparation in Tabletop RPG games: like Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinders… I also love 90’s nostalgia and the amazing creation that is Pokémon. It also helps that many in my creative Mob love Pokemon and Tabletop games too… so two years ago, when I went searching for a home-brew version to play with them and didn’t find one I could fall in love with, I created one myself based on the stats found in the console games and then further simplified…

It took me a year to plan the core rules and it took our group another year to Beta test various iterations before we could start up on a campaign. We are now a few months into the latest (and smoothest) version and we want to share this version of Pokemon RP with everyone else who is a fan of Pokemon very soon! We’re still some time from having a full rule-set to share, but in the meantime we want to release some of the story we have going on, the concepts of the game and discussions around the real-imagined world of Pokemon that we discuss for our world building using different source texts (mostly the Nintendo games).

These discussions are in the POKÉSTUDIES section of our Tumblr: which is mostly run by @sammarkham and @umbreonlibris … I am more of a rules and playtest kind of person, so I decipher the mechanics of the game (and make the pokemon cookies).

This is just sort of an announcement/teaser saying “hey! This is a thing we’re running on Tumblr and if you’re interested in a Pokemon Tabletop RPG based on the video game, let us know!” because we want to make sure that we can share this piece of fun with everyone who is interested and to find other Pokemon lovers who want a more strategic way to consume the 90’s greatest piece of gaming media.
