#124 Jynx
Jynx is a…complicated Pokémon. It likely takes inspiration from gyaru, ganguro and manba fashions, all of which involve bleached hair and dark tanned skin; and, intentionally or not, blackface. We wanted to stick to the fashion elements, manba specifically, but stay away from the blackface, so we took a similar approach to modern depictions of Jynx and gave it purple skin.
Jynx also likely takes inspiration from yama-uma, a mountain hag yokai with winter powers. We wanted to emphasize that side as well, so we gave it a fur-rimmed dress and shaggy hair that covers its eyes.
Its swirly breastplates call back to the stereotypical opera singer, and its lack of legs maintains an air of mystery about it, akin to Gen 3 depictions of Gardevoir as a floating dress fairy.
