Anxiety
I have choosing anxiety because as an emotion it leaves the out come open ended. there could be disappointment or surprise. initially i think of sharper edges thing hidden mostly opaque as materials and shapes that speak of anxiety. traditionally black is considered to represent because we think of it as stressful and possibly depressing but to me anxiety is a shifting emotion that comes and goes before important moments so the out come is not fixed.

Summary
Throughout this project I have found the process of making and remaking a valuable part of the design process. The construction, even basic construction of form allows so much more understanding and investigation than drawing alone. The ability to physically hold, manipulate and connect forms and materials allows for a much more complete understanding of the process and the final result.
I am attempting to express the contrast in the materials. dull - reflective, dense - thin, laminated (plural) - sheet (singular) closed - open, hollow - solid and textured and smooth. The final images will need some more light control. I have used the shared quality of the materials - it can be pierced- to express pattern. Â
In the 3d iterations I investigated both revealing the marble and concealing it. I think revealing it offers more complexity to the object because it  means that the audibility of the marble against the surface is clearer but also removes the temptation to just put a lid on the object. I also looked at smooth surfaces and more edgy options to enhance the handheld experience. I also looked at developing the thread patterns of the drum precedent  from simple decorative connection to a more algorithmic look.
concept drawings showing my ideas for project two. I have decided to use cork, laminated with pvc glue and lathed into a comfortable hand held object, The drum precedent is used in the hollowing out of the form. I think the cork and the copper act as good contrasts. Although they are very different materials they are both able to be pierced, So I have used this quality to express the pattern.

For this project i have investigated primitive drums and toys. Pre-digital experience and entertainment offered far more simple sensory experiences. a physical interaction was required but there ways also a physical reaction. You heard the noise felt the vibration and saw the movement directly. The shape these objects took was directly informed by how they were use or held.
final Summary
SUMMARY
As a result of the exploration processes I engaged with I discovered that to manipulate materials from the surface alone can be limiting. The contrasts were limited to texture. Using plastic made forms rather accidentally and made control very difficult. Â I attempted to disrupt the material structure by piercing through the total thickness in the hope of allowing more fluid movements or fractures. My final iteration was an attempt to mimic lace by applying heat to the pierced sections of the material. Without the ability to combine materials or add colour the textural contrasts were interesting but to my mind limiting.
