They didn’t expect him to speak, or try to force him to before he was ready. They were perfectly content with waiting, though they didn’t have to wait long.

“…I l- love you g-guys.” Shadow whispered, voice wavering.

His brothers didn’t hesitate to return the affection, and before long, a single set of stuttered clicks turned into four distinct, quiet purrs as the boys fell asleep…
