I don't paint often but I really enjoy it when I do. I like my work and try to improve with each piece. On of my downfalls is that I try too hard to make everything perfect. In my life I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, and I would love to be more creative, like your work. But it seems almost impossible to be creative and have it look good, instead of like a mess. Any advice? Your work is really moving and I wish to accomplish that one day
Ahh.. you know, Iām a perfectionist too! I wish I was an expert in photo-realismā¦and sometimes I practice but mostly I disappoint myself. There used to be days when I would draw, very carefully⦠and then torn the paper because the result is not what I hoped for.
So instead of making myself nervous with each drawing, I use art journals. I donāt like it? I paint over it. Painting over something can be seen asĀ āItās not perfect because itās still a work in progress!ā while destroying paper sheets isā¦well, destructive towards your confidenceĀ āI failed, again!ā⦠feel the difference? And donāt paint for someone else! Show your best work only if you want to but thereās no need to show everyone everything. I would be ashamed to show my rough sketches online⦠so I donāt. :) (Less pressure!)
Let expression and fun be your number one priority, instead of perfectionism. It doesnāt need to beĀ āprettyā orĀ āperfectā. Do the work, keep painting and painting until you are happy with the result. Sick of it? Take a break or start a new spread. But always, ALWAYS be kind to yourself.Ā The more you paint, the better you become. Youāll find your own style in time, I promise.A mess can be beautiful too. :)Ā Ā
