So I rarely post on here now about vinyl...BUT... LOOK AT THIS!!! Got home from Palm Springs and this was waiting on me...the Amazon Exclusive Depeche Mode Memento Mori crystal clear 3 side plus an etched 4th side. This is probably one of the most beautifully packaged albums I've ever gotten. And I'm already totally in live with this with written homage to Andy Fletcher. The whole album, the artwork and the packaging all leads back to the dark hole that his death left in these two...it's just so beautiful. It is anything but 'est vere malus' (Fletch's favorite self depicting answer to how want DM show went). Things that are good / bad about the American Lounge... Good - breakfast including fresh prepared avocado toast with salmon... Bad - sneaking zucchini cubes into the scrambled eggs...just no... Good - La Colombe coffee... Bad - the man who is making his wife get up and keep getting him food and drink...excuse me sir, your legs ain't broke. Good - ice and Coke zero for my water bottle on the plane... Bad - a family of five that decided they needed to make the 4 top right next to me their personal storage area...and the obnoxious mother who keeps saying she 'has to sign in to work' really loud so the business travelers give her props. Great - same family finding an area with 5 loungers far away...oh and their two sons went to the restroom and came back and the family was GONE. About last night... Saw Phil Lesh & Friends at @saltshedchicago last night. Hard to believe the man will be 83 on Wednesday. What a great show...Warren and Graham killed the guitars, and James, Natalie and Jennifer held those vocals down right. Highlights were Uncle John's Band and Shakedown...with this Shakedown being the best version I've heard probably since the 91-92 tours...solid, tight and all the disco vibes. Plus Sunshine Of Your Love and Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys to start each set...dig deep or don't dig at all. First time seeing a show at the new venue and have to say it's a great space. Sound was perfect everywhere...and there are a lot of places you can watch the show from. And no lack of concession spots. Plus the staff was super nice. I started the night just a little bit back from the stage, and watched most of the first set from there. Then I wandered to the second and third levels, before finishing the show next to the soundboard. In my days of seeing the Grateful Dead, I learned the importance of a 'family' and tour friends. Last night, I ran into several new friends that I hope to see again at shows.
