Heyyyy totally for no reason at all is there anyone who’s into Call of Cthulhu or Deadlands RPGs that may want to join a little writers room? Just curious totally just curious. Not looking for players, and if you join the writers room we will most likely not ask you to play.
Buuuuut- if you are curious in joining the Writers Room, hello! I’m Tinley, slowly writing a grand Western Epic and Actualplay series called (Working Title) “Dead Man’s Hand.” It is a four (technically five) part horror series set in a fictional small town in Hill Country Texas.
The series follows a small town from its “founding” up until the disappearance and ghosting of the town sometime in the late 1930s. The story follows a group of protagonists from each of the major generations of the town’s history.
“The first generation, known as the Founders, is set in 1840s, it deals with Anglo-Americans arriving in the Mexican dominated town of [Redacted]. It deals with the struggle of establishing roots as well as the “original sin” which starts the spiral into madness for the characters of their generation, as well as generations to come.
The second generation follows what is commonly referred to as the “Wild West,” as it is set in the late 1870s. Following the Civil War see how the small town has changed in 30 odd years, how businesses rise and fall, how players begin to shape the board at play. Follow along as a ruthless criminal begins to stalk the town and lay down his hideous tendrils to wipe away everything the Founders’ created.
The third generation follows about 40 years later in the 1910s, the “gaming of the west,” a time of industry and development. The game changes yet again when the small town of [Redacted] discovers a large oil deposit underneath the town, saving what was one a mining town from becoming yet another blip on a map of emptying western ghost towns. Who will reach oil first? And what will its ill-gotten riches bring with it.
The fourth and final generation revisits the town in the 1930s. The days of reckoning are upon us, and it’s up to our families and leaders to deliver us from their greed.”

As I said up at the top I am currently looking for a team to help finish writing the actual story, if you or someone you know would be interested please let me know! My goal is to finish the background/writing portions before Autumn, with some additional details and information probably taking up until December (most like). You will receive full credit for your help in working on this project, and if you stick around possibly a small stipend for your help!

I need people who have a passion for history or at the very least don’t mind doing their research (we stan you AO3 writers who dedicate countless hours to research)! I know a decent amount on the local area because I’ve had this project in the back of my mind for about a year, and also my family is originally from this area of Texas so I grew up with a lot of stories from here. That’s another thing, this story is personal to me! So I may be a little tight-lipped or uneasy to change some elements of the story but only because its inspired pretty heavily from my family and their experiences growing up in rural TX in the backdrop of the civil rights movement, oppression, general racism, colonialism, murder and more! This will probably be a pretty heavy story so if you don’t feel comfortable dealing with some heavier elements/material this is probably not the project for you.
Speaking of experiences and such— the cast, whenever I have a cast, is welcome to all but we are specifically looking for voices who would not have been “heard from” in that general time period/area of TX. Thinking POC, LGBTQIA+ folks, people with disabilities, etc.! As a result I’m on the lookout for consultants from academics as well general members of said community for representation in both the writing and play fields of this project! Depiction is important, as well as intent, but we want to show a multifaceted Texas as it was then, as well as it is now.
