āI lost my best friendā
Hi!
Just so you know, Iām completely obsessed with Good Omens and Aziraphale and Crowleyās relationship.
So, the other day I was listening to David and Michaelās interview, and Michael said: āNo one understands what is like to be themā, and that inspired me to write something.
So, there you go....If you read it, thank you for your time, and I hope you like it.

Aziraphale and Crowley were walking around Green Park.
The war had been avoided, the world saved, and all that was left was peace and silence, especially between them. Well, especially because Aziraphale couldnāt really think of a right way to start the conversation.
For the last hour, he had been intensely immersed in his own thoughts, reflecting on a specific phrase that Crowley said right before Armageddon started.
āI lost my best friendā
Aziraphale didnāt want to admit it, but there was a not so tiny part of him that thought, and hoped, that Crowley was talking about him.
āI lost my best friendā
Could he actually be talking about him though? He knew Crowley didnāt have a lot of other people to talk to, so he couldnāt imagine he could possibly have another best friend. But still, he wasnāt sure. There were so many creatures in hell and so many of them might have been more similar to Crowley than he could have ever hoped to be.
āI lost my best friendā
He wanted so much to ask, but he didnāt know how.
āI donāt recall Gabriel cutting your tongueā, Crowley said.
āWhat?ā
āYouāve been so quiet, too quiet. I never thought Iād say this, but I prefer when youāre over stressed and canāt stop talking rather than this mute version of youā
āIām sorry Crowley, I was just thinkingā
āAbout what? The world is safe, your bookshop is safe, we are safe, what on hell could you possibly be thinking about to be this quiet?ā.
Aziraphale stopped walking. He didnāt know how to address the subject, but Crowley was looking at him, and he could feel the impatience of his eyes even from under his sunglasses.
āI lost my best friendā
He had to say something.
āI was thinking about us...I mean you....Well, me actually....Well, you and me.....I mean......see? Now Iām over stressed again so I hope youāre happyā.
Aziraphale started walking again, this time nervously and faster, but Crowley went after him and stopped in front of him. He was smiling at him, calm and satisfied.
āOh Angel, you know you keep surprising me? Whatās the matter?ā
Aziraphale sighed.
āWell, I kept thinking about, well....given the circumstances you were in, maybe you were exaggerating, and I think you were drunk....so maybe that was nothing....but I couldnāt stop thinking about that. And...well, you said once you have a lot of people to fraternize with, so maybe you do have a lot of people....and, I mean, I donāt know.....ā
āAziraphale.....youāre not making any sense. Get to the point for hellās sakeā
āAm I your best friend?ā
There you go. Aziraphale asked. He asked and he couldnāt take it back, but he saw that Crowley was looking at him without answering, so he tried to make the question more specific.
āThe other day, after we had a fight, and I came to visit you...well, it wasnāt actually me, but, you know....when I asked you if there was something wrong, you said that you had lost your best friend. Were you talking abut me?
Crowley kept staring at him without saying a word. Aziraphaleās heart was pounding.
āYou know what? Forget about it, I was being nonsense. It doesnāt matter, probably you wonāt even remember. Where do you wanna go? The Ritz? Or thereās a nice restaurant in Covent Garden Iād like you to-ā
āHow could you possibly think I was talking about somebody else?ā
āWh.....what?ā, Aziraphale was now speechless.
āWe had a fight and I abandoned you. Your bookshop was on fire and there was nobody there. I thought I had lost you....how could you even think that I was referring to somebody else?ā
āYes but...but....I let you down...and you always say that you have a lot of people to pass your time with and-ā
āFraternize.....a lot of people to fraternize. I only really talk to and hang out and trust one angel...ā
Crowley was smiling again now.
āYou mean.....ā
āGabriel, I mean Gabriel. Of course itās you Aziraphale, Satan damn itā
āRight, right, just to be sure. Thank you. And to clarify, the feeling is mutual.ā
Aziraphale paused for a moment.
āI donāt think thereās someone who really understands what itās like to be usā.
āI donāt think there isā, Crowley said, smiling.
Aziraphale couldnāt look at him now. He felt flattered and grateful, and he, really really loved him. But he kept that to himself.
āSo, that Covent Gardenās restaurant. Shall we go?ā Crowley asked.
āAfter youā, Aziraphale said, smiling back at him.
