It takes fifteen minutes to roll out of town, and during that time the tape cycles through three and a half songs, Cas comments on two billboards that he thinks are amusing, and Dean tries not to mortify himself in some way before this date is even underway.

(Date. Is it a date? Surely it must be. Or maybe last week was a date, and this week they’re just hanging out—)

“We’re here,” Dean finally says, pulling to a stop at the edge of a field. It looks random, and it might be—there’s a strip of pull-offs along this highway, an old two-lane one that doesn’t get as much traction as the four-lane.

“Where is ‘here,’ exactly?” Cas asks, and Dean prods him out of the car.
