He grins at the promise and the sound of his name, his eyes darting to her mouth as he turns his horse. Even as he rides away, he casts a glance at Annabeth over his shoulder. Laughter rings in the air as clear as the summer sky. It’s a charming sound, Annabeth thinks. She can’t wait to hear it again.

The moon was nothing more than a hazy glow behind the cover of dark clouds.

Percy lounged on his side, chin cradled in his palm as he watched his friends gathered around the bonfire: Clarisse leaning on Silena, Nico talking to them at the speed of light about something Percy couldn’t hear, Grover and Charlie tossing a frisbee back and forth.
