š New Month, New Hope ā From gorom LGBTQ+ Refugees š
As we begin a new month, we stand together in hope, resilience, and pride.
Life in gorom Refugee Camp remains challenging for many LGBTQ+ refugees. Every day, members of our community struggle to access basic needs such as food, shelter, clean water, healthcare, and safety. Despite these hardships, we continue to support one another, raise awareness, and advocate for dignity, equality, and human rights for all.
This month, we ask you to stand with us. Your supportāwhether through sharing our story, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, or making a donationāhelps us survive and build a brighter future.
š³ļøāš Together, we are stronger.
š³ļøāš Together, we create hope.
š³ļøāš Together, we can make a difference.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide food, shelter, medication, and emergency support to vulnerable LGBTQ+ refugees in gorom.

The poor dude sounds just a little exasperated, and with good reason
The showrunners were notoriously antagonistic towards SU, Sugar, and the SU team. The producers didn't agree with a lot of the modern/therapeutic/especially child-friendly queer positive messaging that the whole show revolves around. It almost got canceled multiple times in its runs, they'd try to tank the airing numbers by releasing the seasons/eps in "episode bombs" of 3 - 4 new ones at a time (something they did not do with any other show at the time iirc). The release dates would randomly change so the fandom would scramble to share the info amongst ourselves. Ultimately the network did end up cancelling it for the last season, cutting it down from a full lineup to just 4 episodes. A lot of what the writers and Sugar had wanted to explore wound up having to be cut and/or fit into the epilogue movie.
All because some cruel producers hated that it showed queer children we were loved and deserved to love ourselves. Truly, that was it. But the show survived anyways and it's still loved to this day.

More and more recently, Iāve begun to get some people coming to me asking for some clarification on LGBTQ stuff. When I was younger, I had to discover many basic identities and labels by myself, through research of various sources, or pieced together from disconnected blog posts.Ā
In the year 2019 youād think weād have a kid-friendly website that describes all of this in simple terms but⦠Iāve yet to find one that isnāt primed for guardians/parents of LGBTQ parnets and prioratizes them instead of the LGBTQ kids themselvesā¦.Ā
So I tried to make a quick graphic to organize everything!
Keep in mind - this is based on MY experience and the terminology I have grown up using. Everyoneās experiences may differ - and I tried to simplify in some places to make it easier to read. (For example⦠I didnāt really go into detail on non-binary identities⦠but I may make a seperate graphic for that someday because thatās its own box of pears.)Ā
If you have feelings about this, feel free to go more in depth in the comments!Ā
