Since you're basically the skeleton god (tbh I never saw somebody drawing skeletons and skulls in such a pleasing style), can you give us unknowing people some tipps and tricks about how you draw skulls? I'd love some advice!
First, I willingly accept the title of a skeleton god, or at least a skeleton friend.
Second; thanks a bunch!! I enjoy drawing these cartoony skeles so I’m glad you like them! :D
Firstly and most importantly (well not really, but) say ‘fuck off’ to anatomy because whatever you create with the help of this tutorial would probably look grotesque as FUCK if it was real and with skin.
But, to get to the point, when I started off with skeles they looked a lil bit clunky and it took me a while to finally find the right style for them
Example is my first papyrus;
there’s too much going on with this one in my opinion (he’s kinda terrifying now that i look at him lmfao), and the reason my skeles look pleasing is because i try to make the shapes as simple as possible
my second papyrus was better, but drawing the teeth separately instead of in a simplified way was a bad choice, there’s again too much going on, the shapes are too complicated, and it takes away from the character
Soon after this I finally found a perfect style for him and I also decided to give his mouth a void of darkness. Spaghetti goes there.
It’s basically a circle and a rounded square (with a void of darkness)
Narrowing features down to simple shapes quickly adds a pleasant look to a character, because simplicity is kind to the eye and we like shapes that we can recognize easily.
A while ago when I was designing my liches, I did a few doodles of skulls, based on various random geometrical shapes;
Once I figured that doing this is kinda neat, all that was left was to figure out how to make jaws look so that it’ll appear that I know what I’m doing.
It helps a lot to remember that without the lower jaw, the skull looks like this
basically there’s the round back of the skull, the cheekbones (you can have a lot of fun with stylizing the cheekbones, i love them), and the teeth part that looks pretty tiny if the lower jaw is missing. try keeping that in mind.
Of course with different shapes and stuff there can be different looking characters, but if you want a way to get a skull to look more right, that’s something you might wanna keep in mind
here are my liches for example
If you wanna draw cartoony skeles that are pleasant to the eye, you should;
try to adhere to the basic appearance of a skull
I hope I didn’t forget anything, but that’s basically the gist of it!
