Bobovember 5 - Day 18 - Waiting
Chapter 4: But We Have Homework?
3:30 am
A red 2018 toyota prius pulls up to the precinct. Two figures step out, a short blonde girl with bandages on her face and knuckles and a tall woman with short blonde hair pulled into a ponytail. The woman wears sea green scrubs with little smiley faces all over them over a white turtleneck athletic shirt. She has comfortable shoes and has her badge clipped to her pocket. Her badge has a cute little smiley face holding it on an elastic string. The girl has a pale pink and white Nike gym bag slung over her right shoulder and the surgeon carries a matching backpack along with a white violin case.Â
As soon as the duo makes their way through the doors, theyâre ushered into a conference room full of impatient people. Carina scuffs her shoes nervously, eyes scanning the room for her sister. She halts in her tracks when she notices Aksana isnât in the room.
A middle-aged woman introduces herself as Special Agent Clawson. Her dark skin was complimented by curly black hair pulled into a braided top knot. Clawson wore minimal mascara and neutral lipstick. She was only a few inches taller than Carina so she had to look up at the tall surgeon.
âThank you for your cooperation MsâŠâ
âVasha. Vasha Popov. It is saddening to hear about my dear friends the Bjornos. This is Carina Vilkov, where, might I ask is dear Aksana?â Elisabetta asks with an embellished accent. The two women share a stiff handshake as Agent Clawson scans Carinaâs injuries. The team knew that she was involved in underground fights but no teenager should be hurt this badly and still be functioning. Noting the girlâs exhaustion and the fact that it was nearly 3:45 am and the girl probably hadnât had more than a little nap, she made a decision.
âCarina dear, your father has sent some men to pick you and your sister up. They are three doors down, Agents Dawson and Moore will take you there. Your sister is there too.âÂ
The two called agents stood from their chairs at the end of the table. Dawson smiled softly at the injured girl as Moore glared daggers at âVashaâ. Currently, there was no probable cause to detain the âauntieâ as she was not one of the Jade Sisterhoodâs known members and hadnât presented an opportunity but he knew she was hiding something. Without proof though, it was futile. None of their claims would hold up in court so they would have to continue to bide their time.Â
Agent Dawson took both of the girlâs bags from the two and started to slowly lead her down the hall. Dawson could tell that their charge was in pain whenever she attempted to speak so they decided to fill the silence themself.
âMy name is Briar Dawson, pronouns they/them. That sourpuss over there is Zach Moore, he/him. Youâre Carina Vilkov correct? Are your pronouns she/her?â They ask with a smile, assuming yes or no questions would be the easiest form of communication. Carina nods while flashing a thumbs-up.Â
âGood to know,â the agent smiles, âwould you like me to fill you in on whatâs been going on so far or would you like your sister with you? Thumbs up for now, thumbs down for Aksana being present.â
Carina flashes a thumbs up. Aksana has probably been through a lot today, she doesnât need to live through it again just for her sake.
âAlrighty kiddo. As your sister told you, your mother and stepfather perished this morning in a gang-related incident. Did you see the smoky haze in the city this morning? That was the warehouse that was attacked.â Dawson takes a good look at Carina, they want to make sure they donât overwhelm the poor kid.Â
âWhen the fire was put out, investigators determined that there was a larger threat so we, the FBI, were called in. We found out that you and your sister were in need of a transfer of guardianship so we located your father and he agreed to take the both of you in. One of your brothers was in Chicago for a business trip and just so happened to stop in the city before he flew back to Italy. We were able to get ahold of him and he agreed to take you back with him. His security team is here to take you two to the airport so that you can leave for Italy ASAP. Iâm sure you're both exhausted so this may be hard to understand right now.âÂ
âBrovers?â Carinaâs shock was written all over her face. Even though the slurred words, Moore and Dawson could tell that she had no idea that she had a brother.
Moore sighed, âKid, this is going to come as a shock to you, but you have 7 brothers. Youâll be staying with them at your fatherâs estate, at least for the time being. Your sister has our numbers in case you need anything and you can always call the American Embassy, theyâll be able to help you. Your brothers range from 30 years old to 17. In order from oldest to youngest, their names are; Viktor, Adrik, Santo, Vito, Luciano, Demitre, and Damyan. Now that I think about it, you have something in common with Santo and Vito, theyâre twins too. Your father's name is Cesare Mezzasalma, founder and CEO of Apex Security.â The man places a steady hand on the teenâs shoulder in a silent gesture of solidarity.Â
Carina stays silent but an unspoken question lingers in the air. What?
âWhen you and your sister were born, there was a tragic car accident. You, Aksana, and your mother perished after a drunk driver struck the vehicle transporting you from the hospital to your familyâs estate. As it turns out, your mother faked herâs and you girlsâ deaths in order to flee the country with her lover, Greg Bjorno. At this moment, it appears as though your mother did this to avoid the public backlash that was predicted should she divorce your father,â Dawson hesitates, their fingers twitching as they ponder whether to say the next piece of information, âShe brought you, girls, with her because it was the most convenient cover story. We have reason to believe that your mother suffered from BPD and NPD. She loved you but was very insecure and tended to be defensive to an excess. Tell me, did you and your sister live in Harlem, alone, or did you live with your parents in Tribeca?â The kindly agent looks at Carina expectantly.Â
Time seems to stop as images play through Carinaâs mind. Her and her sister walking home from school. Their arms locked as they chatted about the day. Aksanaâs long ponytail and Carinaâs ballet bun reflect bits of twilight as they walk. The pair reaches a run-down but classy building in need of a new coat of paint.Â
Aksanaâs lightly tanned hand turns a gold knob on a dark green door that opens to cracked tiles and exposed brick. The twins climb three flights of stairs before reaching the top floor. At the end of the hallway is a mint green door with a brass handle. The paint is chipping slightly but there are tiny flowers painted all over it. Their apartment wasnât much but it was home. The tiny kitchen was heavily worn with peeling linoleum floors. There was a little circular table next to a window that had two chairs and a vase of hand-made paper tiger lilies and babyâs breath. The bathroom counter was small and stocked full of Aksanaâs makeup and perfumes. A pastel floral shower curtain and bathmat matched the pink and purple towels that were color coded for each girl. They even found a way to hang a little abstract painting in the room to make it look slightly better.Â
There was no real living room due to a lack of space and funds so the girls had two desks in the room with mismatched chairs so that they at least had somewhere to study and pile their crap.Â
Through a door on the other side of the kitchen and common space was the bedroom. Straight back from the door was Aksanaâs bed tucked in the corner. In the corner to the right of the door was Carinaâs bed. Both girls had twin beds with storage underneath. Theyâd hung floating shelves all over the room except for the far wall parallel to Aksanaâs bed. Carina had saved up and worked extremely hard to purchase a little projector that the girls could use to watch TV together while sitting on the older twinâs bed. The girls had opted for twin beds so that there would be room for them to have a comfortable chair tucked in the remaining corner of the room, along with a fluffy rug. On the wall opposite the door, was a tall, thin window, centered in the room. The girls had hung some sheer white curtains and fairy lights to make a light curtain that shielded them from any prying eyes on the fire escape. There were no ceiling lights in the room so they hung LED lights to frame the perimeter of the room as well as glow-in-the-dark stars in an accurate star map. A little collection of handmade clay mushrooms decorated one of the shelves above Carinaâs bed and polaroids of the girls together and with their friends were arranged above Aksanaâs. While there was a distinction of items based on which bed they were around, it appeared as though the items were fair game for both girls.Â
Tears prick Carinaâs eyes at the thought of never seeing home again. Of never seeing the home that she and Aksana had made for themselves, albeit dingy and cramped with lousy neighbors and no security. Home was home and they would never see it again. She looks up into Agent Mooreâs brown eyes before holding up a number two.Â
The trio finishes their journey in a comfortable silence before Moore opens a heavy metal door. Inside the room is a metal table thatâs been bolted to the floor along with four metal chairs. Inside the room are four men all dressed in black. Three of them wear complete suits complete with black ties and sunglasses, even though itâs nearly 4:00 am and theyâre inside. The last man wears a full three-piece suit minus the jacket and has a white tie. His sunglasses are purple-tinted. Odd.
After some back and forth with Moore and Dawson, the agents step out of the room to stand by the door. The man turns to the girls with a soft grin, âAlright girly, you ready to go? One of my teams is at your apartment as we speak to pack a few essentials for you two so that you have something when we get home. Letâs go.â
His smile falters when Carina ignores him, moving to give Aksana a side hug. The girls clearly have no intention of moving any time soon, he didnât want to but he decided this was the only way to handle the delicate situation.
âCome with us.â The leader of the four men orders. The twins look at each other skeptically. Carina, in her bruised-up glory, steps slightly in front of her sister, hands tensed at her sides. The man raises a brow over his sunglasses, âNo need to get hostile Ms. Vilkov. We are not here to hurt you, but we will be taking you with us one way or another. Now, are we going to do this the easy way or the hard way?â
âExplain our options and where weâre going, and maybe. MAYBE. Weâll come with you. If you so much as touch a hair on her head, Iâll rip your face off.â Carina snarls, words slightly distorted by her injury.Â
âThe easy way is you come with us willingly. We will take you to Mr. Mezzasalmaâs personal jet. From there we will fly to Genoa, Italy where youâll be picked up by your brothers. They will take you home. The hard way is this; You resist, we subdue you, you wind up in Genoa, Italy, and you meet your brothers. Either way, you will be going to Italy, meeting your brothers, and coming home. Your father awaits your return.â The man stares, face neutral as if he didn't just casually describe kidnapping.Â
Aksana grasps Carinaâs hand, making the younger girl relax slightly. The younger twin lowers her left hand slightly with a silent exhale.
âAlrightâŠYou say we have brothers? Why arenât they here? Why did they send a bunch of gangster wannabes instead of picking us up themselves? Also,â she fixes her confused eyes on the middle man with a white tie, âDid you say Italy?! We canât just up and leave the country! We have..like homework!â
The group of men stifle snickers at the futile attempt at excuses. Carina looks each man up and down, assessing their threat level. Her eyes scan the group before landing on a stocky, tattooed man. He has purple-tinted sunglasses and she has definitely seen him somewhere.Â
The man smirks as he watches the girlâs brow furrowed in confusion. She canât quite place where sheâs seen him but she definitely recognizes him. He steps forward with an outstretched hand, âThe name is Nicholas Stone, call me Nix.â
âYouâŠâ Carinaâs face scrunches further, eyes scanning his face for something to give away the reason she knows him, âYou!â
âMe!â There it is. Sheâs figured it out.
â...Thanks. You saved my ass back there.â A pale hand reaches to run through her hair. Carina nods to Aksana while giving her hand a gentle squeeze.Â
âYou said Italy? How long will the flight be, if you donât mind me asking Mr⊠uhm.. Nix?â Aksanaâs fingers tap Carinaâs hand rhythmically as she speaks up for the first time.Â
The men note that, while nervous, the girls work to hide it. To the untrained eye, they would seem mostly unbothered. Nix raises his right hand to his earpiece.
âAlright kids, your brother, my boss, wants wheels up within the hour. Itâll take Nearly 40 minutes to get there, leaving us only 15 minutes of wiggle room. Iâm glad youâre cautious but we do not have time for this.â Nix swishes his hands, shooing the girls toward the door. The two men standing outside the door nod to their boss and the agents as the group walks toward the buildingâs exit.Â
Aksana drapes her arm around her sisterâs shoulders. All the older twin wants right now is to talk to her sister in private. She clearly won the fight but her face is almost half covered in bandages! What the fuck happened? Who was she paired against?! Both girls are clearly stressed, hungry, and exhausted.Â
Two black Lincoln Navigators pull up in front of the building. Nix opens the back door to one, helping Carina into the back row before Aksana joins her. Before he shuts the door, a man with red fingerless gloves walks up with two blankets.Â
âAh Knuckles, whatâs up? You got the stuff right? Boss wants wheels up in,â Nix checks his watch, â47 minutes.â
Knuckles smiles as he reaches back to give the girls the blankets, âYeah, I figured they may want these, it's fucking cold man. The poor kids are in shorts for fucks sake. These were on their beds, I assume they mean a lot and honestly, theyâve been through a hell of a day.â He hands a fleece tie blanket that has white music print on one side and a lilac fabric with pastel stars and basketballs to Carina. He frowns seeing her messed up face. âDamn kid, the fuck happened to you? Whenâs the last time you had any pain meds? Shit looks like it hurts!â
Nix slaps the 23-year-old man upside the head successfully spurring him to hand Aksana a fleece tie blanket with the same music side but a pale pink side with darker pink floral stems. The strong bro hands Nix a little bag to give to the girls on the plane, it holds gummy bears, jellybeans, deodorant, new toothbrushes and paste, a few hair ties, and their phone chargers. Nix claps Knuckles on the back before climbing into the front passenger seat. Knuckles moves to the other SUV while a pretty young man and another woman take seats in the same vehicle. Two men join SUV 1 in the row in front of the two overtired teens.Â
As the Navigator starts the 40-minute journey to the airport Nix turns around to look at the girls. âCarina, Aksana, meet my friends, coworkers, and associates, Beck, Smokes, and Watchman. Beck and Watchman here were in the room with us when you were debriefed, Smokes was on the squad that went to your apartment to grab a few essentials. She was in charge of the team Knuckles was on when he got your blankets. Nice blankets by the way.â
Carina offers a little wave as Aksana greets the woman driving the SUV and the two men sitting in front of the two.Â
Nix pulls out his phone to inform his boss that theyâre on their way to the airport as the car falls into a comfortable silence.Â
Beck turned from his spot behind the driverâs seat to let the girls know they were nearing their destination only to find them asleep. Camera clicks sound as he snaps a few pictures of the girls snuggled up in the back. Carinaâs head leaned on Aksanaâs shoulder with the older sister having secured the younger in her arms. Both were covered in their respective blankets and looked cute as they finally got a little rest. Beck didnât want to wake the two yet so he motioned for the rest of the car to stay quiet until they could get the girls onto the plane. The groupâs collective idea was that it would be easier to carry the teens onto the plane and get them settled rather than coaxing them onto it. They were still on a schedule after all.Â
Some small drawings I made for my patreon tier, I still got three more left.
In case you wonder, I base of mafia's titles for these tier's names XD I thought it would be interesting.

Summary: Nova is a successful business woman with a secret. When her family is put in danger sheâs called home to Italy to resume her place as the Mafia Boss. She brings along her assistant Lydia, to keep in touch with her work while sheâs away.
***A/N again sorry...: this is going to have âpartsâ and different points of view. I hope yall like it đ
I stepped out of my car and headed into the building, star industries was in big red letters on the top of the 50 story building
My white stilettos clicked on the black marble floor, as I made my way to the elevators.
âMorning missâ the elevator operator said
âGood morning Davidâ I said smoothly, checking my watch for the time
We ascended to the top floor and I stepped out. âHave a good morning Davidâ I called over my shoulder, my cream overcoat swaying behind me.
âYou too missâ I heard him call before the doors shut
âGood morning Jackson, Lydiaâ I said to the two seated at the desk near the elevator
âGood morning miss, I have your tea and mailâ Jackson smiled âshould I follow you to your office ms.star?â
âSure Jackson, Lydia, hows my day looking?â my calculating eyes slid over to the lovely pale woman
âWell, youâve got a meeting with Anderson Corp CEO in an hour, and lunch with your parents at noonâ she looked over the schedule book and into my eyes
âVery good, phone me when Andrew gets hereâ I turned around and headed to the only white door
âYes of course ms.star, will you be meeting in your office, or in the west conference roomâ she questioned.
âMy office, itâs quite an informal meeting dearâ I winked at her over my shoulder, her cheeks flushed.
âYes maâamâ she said quietly and averted her eyes from mine
Jackson opened the door to my office, and I settled into my chair. I set my white HermĂšs bag in my desk and opened my computer. A few emails, a few reminders. But what caught my attention was a blinking notification in the corner
âCALL MEâ in all capital letters.
Jackson was getting ready to pour my tea, âIâll get myself thank you Jackson, Iâm not quite ready to have a cupâ I have a tight smile. Trying to hide the fact that my entire mood had plummeted.
âYes ms. Star, do you want me to go ahead and open the mailâ he asked, an innocent question, but I just wanted him gone
âNo jackson, thank you, go down the cafe, and get you and Lydia something, no charge, tell Brayden I said soâ
I nodded a dismissal to him. Please leave, please leave. Please donât have any more stupid questions.
I watched his retreating back hoping he wouldnât have another question. The door shut softly behind him.
I pulled out my iPhone 10X. And quickly dialed the number.
It picked up on the second ring.
âCome home nova.â Was all he said. My second in my life, my bestfriend, my extended family.
âWhatâs wrong Jacobâ my voice was thin, hollow, calculated
âWell w-we lost...we lost Francis, well we-we didnât lose him, h-he was takenâ Jacob said
My heart stopped, my child, my son, my only reason for living.
âWho has my son Jacobâ I said rising from my desk, and heading to the closet on the side.
âThe Spanishâ he breathed
âWhy would the cartel want my son, no one is supposed to know about him Jacob. What. Did. You. Doâ my gritted my teeth. And pulled off my cream coat and pulled down the zipper of my white dress.
âNothing maâam, they just took him, I donât think they know heâs your son, but they know heâs important, Francis doesnât go anywhere without at least 5 of us, they know heâs importantâ Jacob quickly spoke. Trying to explain, get all the words out.
I pulled on a black tank top bodysuit, black jeans and a leather jacket âfind him Jacob. You better know where he is by the time I land. If not itâs your headâ I hung up.
I pulled on some back thigh high boots. And shoved a knife in them, and pulled my handgun out of my bag and put it in my back, under my jacket.
I pulled open my door and stepped out of my office âLydiaâ I called down the hallway, making quick steps towards her desk
âYes maâamâ she was up in an instant
âCall my pilot, tell him Iâll be there in 30 minutes and to fuel up and be on standby weâre going to Italy, cancel my meeting with Andrew and tell him we will talk about it tomorrow, make a reservation for my parents at the Dal and let them know I will not be in attendance and that they can have whatever they please, and then grab your purse, and jacket, and meet me downstairs.â I said standing at the elevator
She looked at me trying to process âDo you understand me Lydiaâ
âYes maâam, yesâ and she picked up the phone.
The elevator ride down was silent. David said nothing but let me out in the garage.
I clicked my key and my bmw started up.
I pulled out of the parking lot and Lydia was standing in front
She slid into the seat her hair frizzy from running her hands through it
She fumbled with her thumbs nervously
âSpeak Lydia what is itâ I said to her. As I pulled us on the freeway.
âWhere are we going? Why did you bring me? Whatâs going on?â She said, scared
âWeâre going to the airport, Iâm bringing you because I need you, and someone took my son from me, Iâm going to get him backâ I answered her calmly
âI didnât know you had a sonâ she looked towards me.
âNo one knows I have a son..well no one knew I had a son, he needed to have a normal lifeâ I merged into the carpool lane and sped up âanything elseâ
âWhy are we going to Italyâ her eyes cast down to her lap
âBecause thatâs where my home isâ I said in a duh tone
âBut why?â She pushed
âBecause Lydia, Iâm the boss of the Italian mafia.â
She gasped when we arrived to the airport. She hadnât said anything since I mentioned I was the boss.
I needed her Incase someone called from work, and bringing a man around all my guys was a bad idea, considering the last time.
âAm I going to dieâ she whispered, I almost didnât hear her
âNo Lydia, youâre not going to die, youâre going to be fineâ I patted her shoulder and pulled into the tarmac next to the plane. My door was opened immediately, my bag was taken out of the trunk by the stewardess. âMs.Santarillo, where would you like these?â âIn the back bedroom thank you Stacyâ
She nodded and headed up into the plane
âSantarillo, I thought your last name was star.â Lydia questioned
âAn aliasâ I shrugged my shoulders and ascended the stairs, I looked over my shoulder at the top âcoming?â
She nodded quickly and followed me
Stacy came sauntering into the main area of the plane âchampagne, ms.santarillo? For you and your friendâ she looked skeptically at Lydia
âNo Stacy, Iâll have a water, do you want something Lydia?â I looked over to her, asking for a response
âNo thank you maâamâ she pulled a tight smile across her face. âThat will be all Stacy, thank youâ I waved my hand dismissively.
Stacy nodded and scurried away, the plane took off and soon we were in the air.
âYou have something to say Lydia. What is itâ I watched her from the corner of my eye, she was taking deep breaths and trying not to fidget.
âI just donât understand, who are youâ she looked me in the eyes
âLydia, I will not repeat myself again after this so pay attention. When I was growing up my father was the boss of the Italian Mafia and a very successful businessman. I being his only child was set to inherit everything he had when he decided enough was enough. I was groomed, trained, and taught everything I needed to know to run the business and the mafia. On my 21st birthday it was announced that I was now the boss. A year later I had fallen pregnant with my son, Francis, I raised him for 5 years, before Iâd introduced him to all of his âunclesâ in Italy, where heâd be able to live a normal life, around our culture until I felt he was ready to take over the business. Iâll never tell him about this mafia nonsense. He doesnât need to be apart of this life. But someone has taken him, and Iâm going to get him back. You are here to keep me in touch with my work. Youâll stay in the house, under my protection, for the duration of our stay. If you have any more trivial questions, google itâ I rose from my seat and lent over the table the separated us. She shrunk into her seat.
I tucked a hair behind her ear âLydia, youâre going to be fine, I promiseâ I kissed her on both cheeks, âthereâs a bedroom for you when youâre feeling tiredâ I stood up straight and smiled at her, then headed to my own bedroom to shower and try to figure out what hell im going to raise to get back my child.
The plane landed smoothly and I emerged from my room in a skin tight black dress that stopped at my calves, black red bottom heels, a black velvet overcoat with a satin red lining, and a black HermĂšs bag. Deep red lips, and my hair was pin straight stopping just above my shoulders.
âStacy, wake Lydia and tell her Iâll be waiting in the carâ I said as I walked past her
âYes maâam, right away, and welcome homeâ she smiled and made her way to the other bedroom
I descended the stairs and headed over to my black Escalade âJarvis, lovely to see youâ I kissed both my drivers cheeks. âYou as well nova, welcome homeâ he opened my door and ushered me in.
I texted Jacob that I had landed and would soon be on my way there.
Lydia came down the stairs, looking a bit disoriented, her hair was slightly stuck to her face and her once crisp lilac dress was just a bit wrinkled. She squinted at the sun and made her way towards the car
Jarvis opened her door and she slid in
I set my phone down and looked over at her â I trust you slept wellâ
She pulled her hand through her hair âYes, thank you, that bed is heavenâ she sighed and rolled her shoulders
Jarvis hopped into his seat âto the manor maâam?â
âYes Jarvisâ I nodded and pulled up Jacobs contact
âVery good maâamâ he started up the car and left the airport
I put the phone to my ear, it only rang once
âIâm hereâ
âWe found him, theyâre still here in Italyâ his confidence was illy placed.
âI should still have your head, for allowing him to be taken in the first place. Jacob it is your responsibility to essentially babysit. Youâre supposed to know where he is, what heâs eating, who he talks to. That is the job I gave you. And if there is a scratch on my sons head when I get him, I will not hesitate to put one between your eyes. You better pray that heâs in perfect conditionâ my eyes were dark, blazing pools of green fire.
âI know, Iâm sorry nova, I am, Iâll get him back, I swearâ he was pleading.
âHave the twins ready, and briefed. Since you canât handle looking after my son, youâll be staying back with my assistant Lydia, I donât have the patience for incompetenceâ I rolled my eyes. And looked over to Lydia. She was staring wide eyed at the back of the seat in front of her.
âYes bossâ
âGoodâ I hung up.
âJarvis, letâs stop and get Lydia something to eat, she looks like sheâs going to pass outâ I smiled looking into his rear view mirror
âYes maâam, where to?â
âBellĂ gricio, will be just fineâ I nodded
âYes maâamâ
We arrived shortly, Jarvis opened the door for Lydia and I, to the restaurant, I could feel Lydiaâs awe from behind me. I owned this restaurant so the host sat is rather quickly, Jarvis stood by the door, surveying the people in attendance. âWhat would you like? Whatever you wantâ I looked over at her.
âThis is a lot, I mean, Iâm not dressed for this, and you look incredible and how can I be seen with you, youâre basically a celebrity and then thereâs the ma-â I interrupted her âdonât finish that sentence, pick something to eat, Iâm not askingâ I clipped my tone.
She gave a swift nod and I signaled the waitress
âMaâam?â
âIâll just have a glass of red wine....â I looked up to the waitress, at her name tag âAnalisaâ
âWhich one maâamâ she asked
I licked my lips, and made eye contact âmmm, your favoriteâ she flushed. And smiled shyly
âA-and for yo-you miss?â She looked over to Lydia, but snuck another glance at me, I winked at her
Lydia ordered.
âI just have a questionâ she blurted out
âSureâ I settled my eyes on her
âWhere is Francisâs fatherâ she mumbled
âPardon?â I leaned forward
She cleared her throat, squared her shoulders, and tried to look me in the eyes âhis father, where is Francisâs father?â
âMm, dead probablyâ I said with not much emotion.
Analisa came back and poured my wine. I took a sip, âdelicious, thank you Analisaâ she nodded and hurried away, her face red in the cheeks
âWhat do you mean deadâ Lydia whispered
âI mean, someone probably put a bullet in his headâ I whispered back, âwhy are you whisperingâ I laughed at her.
âThereâs no need to whisper, heâs probably dead, and if he isnât, what do I careâ I shrugged.
Lydiaâs plate was placed in front of her. She dug in and ate silently. I signaled Jarvis and he made his way over. âGet her another meal to go, we need to get home. Before we run out of daylight.â
âVery good maâamâ
âAnd make sure Analisa is given a nice tip. How much was the bill?â
â$375, maâamâ
âTip her 1,000â I handed him the cash.
He nodded and walked over to the desk.
âIâm so sorryâ Lydia said, now seemingly uninterested in her food.
âFor?â I looked through my text messages and sent one to Laura, and Bethany, that Iâd be at the house and to have the twins meet me.
âThat bill was ridiculousâ she gaped
âI must not pay you enoughâ I laughed. âAre you finished?â
âUmm yesâ she nodded.
âLetâs go then.â I rose from my seat, and headed out but before I got to the door
âYour boyfriend is very luckyâ came a slimy voice from the bar I was passing
I turned around and looked at Lydia, but he was looking at me.
âI donât have a boyfriendâ I said icily.
âThen I guess itâs my lucky dayâ he reached out for me. I took a step back, and went to turn around.
âCâmere bitchâ he lunged for me.
Lydia screamed and stood stock still. I pulled his middle finger back, kicked in his knee and pulled out my gun and placed it to his temple.
âGive me a reason to blow your head offâ I said calmly. His eyes were screwed shut, and the restaurant was silent. All that could be heard was the incoherent whispering from the mans mouth. It sounded like a prayer.
I leant down to his ear. âPrayers wonât save you now. Welcome to the lions den. Someone will come fetch you, your life is mine now.â
He nodded. I released him, âJarvis have one of the guys come and collect this one, he can work in the kitchenâ and put my gun back in my bag and breezed past Lydia. âYes maâamâ Jarvis said and pulled out his phone. Lydia followed, in a daze.
We finally arrived at the house. Cars lined the driveway. Lydia gasped. âThis is your house?â
âWelcome to Santarillo manor, Miss Lydiaâ Jarvis said.
We got out and walked up the stairs to the front door. I flipped up the tab on the handle and used my fingerprint. The door opened and we stepped inside.
Maids were running about cleaning and handling laundry. We walked through the foyer and into the sitting room. There were five men seated the twins Leo, and Landen, Jacob, Geovanni, and my father, Antonio.
I help my hand up for Lydia to stop.
âDaddy, why are you here?â I questioned, looking over at Jacob. He shrugged âsomeone took your son, my grandson, the only continuation of my bloodline. Iâm here to help find himâ he crossed his arms over his chest.
I rolled my eyes. I looked over my shoulder, Lydia was looking at the floor. I gestured to a maid. âTake her upstairs and show her to the room next to mine. The one with the adjoining door, get her something to wear from Jacobs sister Mia. Introduce them, and report back to me when youâre finished.â
âYes senoraâ she nodded waiting to take Lydia away.
I look at Lydia âIâll come find you when Iâm finished, take any calls for me, and write them down, schedule all meetings for next week, and call Jackson, tell him youâre fine and to not expect you until tomorrow evening if all goes smoothly, we will be leaving tomorrow. Understand?â
âYes maâamâ she nodded and was ushered away
