To have a beloved book and Season One all about how a bunch of kids, a witch from few centuries back, some random humans and an immortal angel and demon decide to stop a looming plan to destroy the world because it’s unfair to everyone who came to love the place, and THEN use the finale to shrug and blow the whole thing up saying oh well, there will be another universe, don't worry.

I think the problem with free will in the original GO universe wasn't that God was controlling every waking moment of people's lives, but that at any moment God could decide to destroy or test people to destruction for no good reason. It was something God did ever since Adam and Eve, and continued with Job, the Tower of Babel, the Great War in Heaven, Sodom and Gomorrah, the plagues in Egypt, everyone other than Noah and his family, the Second Coming, etc. You have to ask then, how much is your free will worth if there's an all powerful being who can just decide your fate on a whim? God kept setting things up to see what would happen if they did this, and if people made the wrong choice (in God's eyes) they would be punished. God was the sole arbitrator of what was wrong and what was right in the orginal universe though most people tended to live their lives in complicated shades of gray. Or at least that's how I understood it to work in the orginal universe.
You make good points. I think my problem with it is that I don’t believe God would ever agree to destroying themselves in order to create a godless universe with true free will. I don’t trust her.
There was angel and demon graffiti on the wall so the humans still had some sort of lore about them in their world. I wonder what early human history would have looked like without all those events you mentioned. I would imagine, still pretty horrible since we, as a species, are not kind to each other.
Two humans who looked like aziracrow with similar interests managed to find each other and fall in love. They managed to find themselves in the pub with a bunch of humans who funnily enough, looked like all the angels and demons from throughout the show, and I know they did it just for a last hurrah and to say goodbye for the show but it all still reeks of pre-determinism to me.
If there truly was no interference from god and they had proper free will it would have been very very unlikely they would have even met. Might not have even liked each other if they did, who knows.
The two worlds just seem too similar to use free will as the reason for their annihilation and this whole shhpeil of “time after time” and “in every universe” etc is not free will in my eyes. That’s my thoughts anyway.

If there was no free will in the original universe, and God was making decisions for and pre-determining the path of every animal, human, angel and demon that ever existed. What would be the point in that? Why would god even bother? Wouldn’t that be the most boring game in existence?

I'm an atheist, so excuse me if I don't give a damn about what the finale has to say about free will as a serious religious & ontological concept. Not only much better people during history have tried to grapple with these theological questions and failed. But Good Omens was, in its og conception, a parody of all these religious dilemmas. It was never supposed to be another voice in the debate, it was never meant to be a preachy end-it-all lesson on what we're supposed to think, nor a serious story trying to make sense of it all. It was a cold war parody ffs, not a Kant dissertation. So it's not that I dOn'T uNdErStAnD free will, it's that the GO series in the first place doesn't understand what free will is, since in the 3 seasons they kept changing its meaning and its implications within the story.

You really don't get it. The characters who saved me weren't given the will to save themselves. They saw how bad everything was and decided they just wanted the easy way out, not even trying to barter for more time.
Something really gross about how Agnes Nutter is literally the only titular character and how all of her efforts and relevancy in the narrative is rendered null and void by this 'sequel' when she was the narrative, her prophecies were the throughline that connected everything.
Agnes Nutter thought the world was worth saving, so I'm with the Witch on this one guys.

A forehead touch… a hug……..anything other than this. It feels like Az is giving him his kiss from s2 back. It feels regressive, it feels weird, it feels out of place. I know a lot of people liked it, and I’m not trying to say they’re wrong, we all have different views. I know we have all talked about it constantly since May 13th and I’m not adding anything new to the conversation.
But I feel this goes deeper than just a narrative choice in a tv show. It’s another example of queer people not getting a happy ending or showing much affection or intimacy towards each other.
To have such a large portion of the fandom in the queer community, and tell the story in this way…..is a choice. If Az and Crowley were male and female presenting would they be saying goodbye to each other by way of a finger kiss?
