Okay. He can work with that. A nod, before going back to inhaling food. He's on his third plate by now...
"Yeah?" Umbreon can't help but grin in the background, pausing his grooming session. His trainer is far too dense sometimes, but it sure is hilarious. Third plate practically picked so clean it could be re-used with ease, Damien slowly places it down on the blanket.
"..." Is it time for cake yet... He looks between Cereza and the cake a few times, before finding his voice. "...May I?"
That'll do for now – it can be left for the time being.
She gives a nod instead, trying to focus on eating rather than her cheeks turning pink.
Her attention turns back to Damien when she notices that he's still eyeing the cake. Seems sweets really were at the forefront of his mind. Not that she minds, she did get the cake specifically because he'd asked her to!
“ Go ahead! I got it for you, after all. ”
So long as she gets at least one slice, she'll be happy.
Startled, they limp after her. Their aipom hops on their head, chuckling at their masters plight.
“Hey, look, you don’ gotta fuss over me — I’m sixteen! I stopped growing like, six years ago?” They don’t realize that’s not normal. “I’m fine, honest, I can make my own food—”
“ Also not a normal thing! ” she tuts, shaking her head at the younger of the pair.
Her arms cross over her chest as she cants her head this way and that, thinking for a moment. How to get them to accept? “ Well… consider this a gift of Cthonian cuisine! I happen to quite like cooking for others. ”
It's all free... There's so much food here, though. He feels a little guilty for not doing anything in return.
He ponders a bit, trying to think of how to return the favor. He can't really make any good dishes, so that's not an option. No way he's embarrassing himself like that. He absentmindedly fiddles with the sword attached to his necklace-- wait.
"...Do you like jewelry?"
Making something for her is the only thing he can think of right now. He has all the materials he needs for it, too. While he waits for an answer, he stuffs his face, eyes lingering on the box with cake again.
She cants her head as he speaks, confusion clear on her face.
Why would he ask her that of all things? It seemed a bit random to hear after they'd been discussing food and history. Did he feel like he had to give her something? Suppose some people would feel that way – unable to just let it be sometihng nice done for them. Always feeling like they have to return the favor. She gets it – she can be like that, too.
“ Mhm. I think a lot of girls my age like something pretty. ”
She did not know a lot of girls her age. It just felt a bit awkward to just say ‘yes’ and leave it there. She – really wasn't the best when it came to these sorts of things.

"It is. I'd like to learn more, too."
So he's curious, and even admits it. Truth be told, traveling had been more of an interest for him the older he became. Money was tight, though he managed just fine. Wikstrom still sent him a monthly allowance (after much protest from Damien). That didn't go towards himself at all, though. He spent almost everything on the best things for his Pokémon.
"You saying a Pokémon made this cake?" That's so cool??? He wish he could bake... or even cook other things than the most basic of meals.
Ah. There it is again. 'Friends'... He pauses his eating, stares at her... People were eager to call each other friends early, huh? But she barely knew anything about him at all. Still... He didn't mind it as much as he'd thought.
"Mhm." Not much of an answer, but he meant well. "You sure I don't need to pay you back?"
“ Really?! I'd love to get to teach you! ”
The thought in itself meant a lot to her if she were being honest. That someone could take an interest in her home even just from her rambling about it. The sights helped, she was sure. And he kept wanting to know more and more! This was the sort of interest she hoped that everyone could end up taking in the place once she introduced it properly to the world.
“ Mhm! It's amazing, right? ” She'd been surprised and excited by it when she first came home. It seemed so different than everything else she'd known before then.
Perhaps she's – over eager to make friends. Most of her life had been spent without them, after all. No people her age she really connected to. Just the professors who kept taking care of her everywhere she went. Every region she moved through in her journey home. She should send them a few more letters later – tell them about how she was settling in. Maybe call Sycamore, too. He'd probably be proud, right?
“ Oh, not at all. I'm the one who asked you to eat with me, after all. ”

"Woah." That's pretty cool. Must have taken a while to figure all that out. Damien moves on from his legs to his back, applying more of the lotion.
"Guess that makes sense." People and Pokémon had lived together for so long, it made sense they would figure it all out eventually. Aloe applied, he picks up his plate once more. He picks up the pace eating wise too, and without realizing, starts inhaling things at high speeds.
Umbreon sits next to him, tilting his head. The Pokémon would shrug if he could, but instead stares up at his trainer with a knowing look in his eyes. You tried, buddy. A valiant effort. It's not like he doesn't appreciate the food. Just feels less anxious shoveling it into his mouth at a rapid pace.
"...Thanks. For the aloe, I mean. And the food."
“ It's really cool, right?! I hope I get more time to teach Cthonian history to more people. It's fascinating. ”
Between the reasons for their ancestors moving here to everything they found out. There was so much to learn about. So much to discover when one actually looked for it.
“ Mhm~! Oh, did you know we even have Pokemon that work alongside us? There are several at the bakery I got your cake at, even! ” Get her talking about Pokemon and she could go for hours. Talking about the history of her people and it was nearly the same. Anything that ahd caught her eye to a certain extent. She'd learn it all if she could – and it meant she loved getting to share it just as much.
Another treat is tossed to her Flygon before she's going back to eating. A raise of her brow is given at his first words before she waves it off with a smile.
“ It's nothing, really! We're friends, after all. It's important to lend a hand here and there. Plus I said we'd do meals together anyway, right? ”
“— hey! Wait! No, it’s fine!
I don’t even do that anymore!” Not unless they spot something good. “I have like. Money and shit now! You don’t gotta fuss over me — you don’ even know me —”
She's already getting into the kitchen and on the phone to get something delivered to make him a better breakfast.
“ No, no – you're growing still, you need something more than this. It doesn't matter if we just met. ”
“Miss, I’ve been desperate enough to eat straight outta the dumpster before, this ain’t anythin to me.”
“ That's also not good! I'm making you something better – and more nutritious! ”

"How about uh... I help you make those a bit nicer so it isn't a waste, hm?"
“It’s fine. If I drown em in syrup it mostly covers the taste. I just gotta get through em.”
“ Just ‘getting through them’ doesn't sound very uh… appetizing at all. ”
Ah... He's thankful for both the aloe and the fact she doesn't draw attention to it. It was embarrassing enough for him to begin with, that's true. Damien once again gently places the plate on the blanket, and reaches for the bottle of aloe.
"Oh." So Alolan Raichu didn't need the pancakes? Guess that made sense. He's pretty sure Pikachu will still need a Thunderstone in Alola, too.
"That's interesting. So their specific diets are required to evolve?" He muses, as he slathers the backs of his legs in the aloe. A shiver shoots up his spine-- so cold against his skin. It's nice, though.
"So they don't evolve at all if they don't get the right foods, huh? How did people figure out the diets?"
Seems she's learning well enough how to handle him at times. Not that she couldn't handle most things with tact in the first place! Damien seemed to just require a gentler hand, almost. He likes when people don't call too much attention to things – at least the ones that might be embarrassing to him. And a sun burn? Definitely embarrassing.
“ Mhm! Some diets and routines can even result in different evolutions in certain Pokemon which is fascinating, too. ”
She shifts slightly, going back to eating between her words.
“ I think it was mostly by accident, honestly. People and Pokemon have always lived so closely together that learning things like that just happened. I'm sure some of the earlier peoples tried recreating effects and got nothing only to realize it was their diets and how that builds trust and friendship! After all, what says ‘I love you’ more than remembering the things you're partner likes best? ”
He can relate to that. Once the first pita is gone, he places down his plate on the blanket to readjust his seating position a bit. A wince as he tries to find a comfortable position with his crispy legs. Still can't believe he forgot the sunscreen. He's usually pretty good at keeping track of that, since he burns easily. Probably should put on more aloe soon.
Plate re-equipped in his hand, he stuffs another pita. This time he's adding mostly meats and cheeses. Where's the vegetables my man.
"Like in Alola?" He means the pancake thing going on with Alolan Raichu. "Wait. A feast for the winners?" Maybe he will try a Gym Battle... If they'd let him, anyway.
"I can't recall if there's any Pokémon that evolve with certain foods in Kalos." None came to mind at first thought, though.
She notices that sudden wince of his. Nonchalantly, she reaches into her bag to pull out a bottle of aloe. Given how pale she is, she tends to keep it on hand for burn emergencies. It's put in between them before she goes back to eating, as if she had never even put it out in the first place. Drawing attention to it would just embarrass him further, right?
“ I don't think that's the same thing. ” She shakes her head, shifting a bit to call her Flygon a bit closer. She rests her head in Cereza's lap, tail starting to wag eagerly.
“ Puișor here is a regional Flygon – as you could probably tell – but their diet is super important to getting them to evolve. They like savory foods mostly, if you try giving them anything else, they won't do it. There's also a Pokemon here called Meowlgam, which eats everything and it involves into an Amelowgamate! Then there's the eevee evolutions I told you about, too. Their evolutions are dependent on how close they are to their trainer and what they've been fed. ”
Not what she expected? Damien raises a brow, but doesn't say anything in reply to that.
Cereza lists the dishes in front of them. So he needed to put all of that stuff into the pita? I mean, pretty obvious... He's gonna slowly stuff one pita as she explains the other dishes.
"You brought a lot." Not complaining in the slightest. Just an observation. Damien looks over the spread once more. Would it be weird to add everything to this pita? Not that he cares. He's doing it anyway. The thing is almost bursting with ingredients at this stage... How are you gonna eat that? Oh-- He manages just fine, somehow.
"The meats and cheeses are good." Another nod, shoving the overstuffed pita into his mouth again. He's picking up the pace eating-wise, but he isn't aware of it. Force of habit. Also, technically he tasted most things by now. Umbreon's fed another piece of meat, to which he happily cries out. Sharing's caring!! At least if you're one of his Pokémon.
“ We uh… eat a lot. ”
By that she meant herself and her Pokemon. Nobody would guess it from her small frame, but she did use quite a lot of energy. Suppose it was one of the drawbacks of being connected to everything the way that she was.
She'd never complain about it, it just contributed to her being tired at times.
There's a moment where she just eyes him. Watching as he stuffs his pita full of all sorts of different things. She's trying very hard not to laugh again, her attention going down to her food as she begins to eat. Her Flygon still remains by her side, waiting for when its her turn for something - which she gets rather easily.
“ Food's a very big part of our culture here, too. It's even what helped with realizing certain Pokemon evolve differently here! Plus, after gym battles we hold little celebratory feasts for the winners~. ”
Public vs Private Knowledge

Cereza is the only child of the Dragos family, a rarity among the founding families as they usually even have branch families. However, the Dragos family has always been known to only have one child
The Dragos family is the only founding family able to directly communicate with the Wytchwood. They have been referred to as Oracles, Seers, etc. It is why even if a Dragos is not Champion, they are head of the Families Council which oversees the region as a whole save for matters that include the gyms.
Cereza is the first proper Professor that Cthonia has ever had. When the Founding Families originally fled to the region, they did so for safety and sanctuary which they found. Their knowledge about Pokemon came from simply living with them and Reza is the first to have gotten a proper education
Prior to returning home, Cereza gained a reputation within the regions she went as undefeatable, having never lost a match. Others saw her as cold, distant, and an unobtainable goal. Such became more true when she seemed to breeze through the Gym Challenge of her own home
Cereza was missing from age six to age fourteen. Her whereabouts were unknown and she came out of seemingly nowhere when she returned
She travels often between matches to try and introduce Cthonia to the wider world, attending conferences, parties, anything that she can in order to get the word out.
With the region open, she also often throws charity events and other parties within Castle Dragos like her mother used to. This is, again, to invite people to the capital and allow them to experience more of the place she calls home

Cereza was essentially kidnapped by her father and taken to Kalos. She spent most of her childhood after her mother's mysterious "disappearance" locked in a lab without contact from anyone except for her father
Her mother's "disappearance" was actually the result of her father poisoning her and hiding her body. The reason for this being that he wanted to take Cereza from Cthonia to see what exactly constituted the connection between Dragos and Wytchwood. Answers he would not get due to her running away
Cereza has met and often visits the legendary Pokemon of Cthonia. Due to their statuses as the protectors of the Wytchwood and hers as the head of the Dragos family, they communicate rather often
She has extremely bad anxiety and ptsd due to her time being locked in her father's lab. Seeing someone for these has never crossed her mind and she presents a rather good front to keep her people from worrying over her.
Cereza is the one who pushed the most for a secondary Champion seat. Even if nobody's beaten her before, she thought having a seat specifically for foreigners who tried the gym challenge would be another good way to help boost the region's appeal
Cereza nearly died her first time within Typhon. Not because of the Pokemon, but because of the overwhelming pressure that came from finally being home. Between the whispers of the wood and the sudden connection, she collapsed and was unable to wake up for several days. Several years of information, longing, and reunion flowed through her and it was only because of the legendary Pokemon that she was able to survive. Despite this, she's never been afraid of Typhon or the Wytchwood - she only views it as home.
Despite having been a founding family who fleed to Cthonia, the Dragos family is the only one to trace their roots directly back to the region. This is why they have a unique connection to the Wytchwood.

Team Harrow and Project Harbinger.
Cthonia is a region with a long and storied history, this much is true even just at a glance. The Wytchwood has stood since before it was settled and it would remain even if all were to leave. That is what the Cthonians have always believed, after all it was the Wytchwood itself that granted them sanctuary and brought them home. As if they were always meant to be there after fleeing their original homes.
However, there are those who would rather enjoy if the Wytchwood were to go up in flames. It is just land, after all. Land that can be bought and sold and used to make room for bigger and better places. There is money to be made and the Cthonians are rather foolish to just let it sit there unused. Or, that is the belief of Team Harrow and their leader Mairi Calloti.
Despite being raised in Cthonia herself, she never understood the traditions or the reverence given to the Wytchwood. It was just wood. Wood that was keeping them from expanding. And when she was older, she left her home. That was when she met the original leader of Harrow Corp, a man who's name she never really cared to learn and didn't bother to remember even when he handed the reigns to her. All she cared for was the funding he was giving her and the resources. The manpower that would make her project possible.
What project?
One set to finally set the Wytchwood ablaze. To hell with that eyesore that was keeping them from expanding. To hell with the woods that her parents seemed to care about more than her. To hell with tradition and even the guardians that sleep within the wood themselves! Project Harbinger would be an end to everything that Cthonians knew... and it would be a beautiful beginning for something even better.
For now, they are merely biding their time. Cthonia has recently opened to the rest of the world, after all. Why waste their time and effort when its relatively unknown? No... it would be best to open operations when people will know just what's happening. When the world will see the end of a region and the birth of something far better. A monument to just what it means to be at the very top of the world.
"They're all in the Wytchwood except for one?"
Huh. That's neat. He gives a nod in acknowledgement, silently following her for a bit.
"That sounds nice. I'd like that."
First things first, though. Typhon. Damien glances around, just enjoying the scenery for a bit. It's different from home, and different from anything he's ever seen.
"So." He decides finally speak up again. "What uh. What do you do for work?" A basic question, but he wanted to break the silence with something.
“ Mhm! Only Paramaria is outside of it since that's where we first settled beforehand. ”
They'd been offered home and sanctuary, after all! And now the region was thriving, even before it was opened to visitors!
“ Alright, that'll be our goal then! Not all for today, but – in general. ”
It would take a few days to get from place to place anyway. Not like it was a straightforward and easy journey to make. or – it was if one took the path, but it still took awhile!
“ Uh – ” She looks over at him and then away as they continue. “ Lately it's a lot of management tasks. Making sure things run smoothly for visitors. I – wear a lot of different hats, let's say. ”
