There’s not much to say about this other than how ridiculously fantastic this film is going to be and that I’m amped to see it. Amidst a society where the “heroes” placed atop the proverbial pedestal of success and achievement are passed along as sports figures, pop-culture feeding pseudo-celebrities, obnoxious and anti-intellectual TV personalities, or gun-toting action film actors (among others), there couldn’t be a better time for a film like this to enter the media sphere.

According to Atwell, her role as Agent Peggy Carter, Captain America’s love interest, is a lot more kick-ass this time around. ‘I’ve been working with some stunt coordinators – I get three separate fight scenes,’ she says. ‘The training has been really tough because not only are you learning the moves, you’re also learning the power of the punch so it doesn’t look like you have spaghetti arms. On my first day, they said: “It’s going really well but you don’t have to add your own sound effects…”’

While Captain America is perhaps fictional history’s best-known Hitler-puncher, he is far from the only hero to sock old Adolf in the jaw — and now Canada gets its turn courtesy of Francis Manapul‘s fundraiser sketch for the Johnny Canuck Kickstarter. The Toronto-based Detective Comics co-writer and artist filmed himself as he sketched, and the video offers a fascinating glimpse of his process.

Like Nelvana of the Northern Lights and Brok Windsor, Johnny Canuck is one of the lost Canadian comic heroes of the 1940s, a time when American comics weren’t allowed into Canada because of restrictions on non-essential trade. Long out of print, a new generation may get to enjoy his adventures thanks to this Kickstarter.
