Whatâs up just a reminder that the Hula Girl stereotype can go to hell and is in part responsible for Hawaiâi being the tourist destination and getting invaded by rich white people, and for Hawaiian culture being disrespected and appropriated
Hereâs a few sources on the topic:
How Americaâs Obsession With Hula Girls Almost Wrecked Hawaiâi (the site is weird but the research is legitimate, gives a good overview of the issue and references a lot of sources that are harder to get your hands on read: books)
âPopâ Goes Hawaiâi: The Twentieth Century Origins of Tourism in Hawaiâi and the Impact of U.S. Pop Culture on Women in the Islands of Aloha (this one is very long but a really good read)
Misperceptions of the âHula Girlâ (this one is a personal essay but itâs an entry in the University of Hawaiâiâs academic newspaper)
Cool cool so its Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month so Iâm gonna uh. reblog this

I have a very vibrant giddy feeling since the procedure. Iâm not sure if itâs relief at not dying or if I somehow feel healed or healthier, but I feel I should make note and make use of it.
I had a PFO closure yesterday, a little flower umbrella put in my heart to cover the hole. Iâm doing great and have a fantastic and fantastically gross bruise and hole by my groin where the catheter went in.
Pretty happy about this
Post stroke fatigue is indistinguishable from I canât deal canât bother canât address your concerns today
The above is my current normal
Iâm having a cardiac procedure this Friday. Low risk as far as cardiac procedures go, but the risks are still scary

That small frantic moment of realizing things you thought were getting done were not getting done and you gotta restart the process of faxing things and your cardiac procedure is delayed because
scream @ âfemale presenting nipplesâ
tumblr is shutting everything down, not sure this blog will survive the cull
December 17 is the day of remembrance for sex workers
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Day_to_End_Violence_Against_Sex_Workers
This is incredibly fucked up.
Youâre fucking ridiculous if you think tumblrâs porn/nudity ban actually has to do with child pornography. Literally every other site can effectively moderate this issue and tumblr has been actively closing in further on their anti-NSFW move. Many sex workers and NSFW artists were removed starting last month after the iOS app was removed from the App Store. Look at FOSTA/SESTA, look at the moves throughout the year to push sex workers and NSFW artists away, look at the way Patreon, Paypal, Craigslist, credit card companies, etc. have over-policed this issue and forced sex workers away. This is all so obvious.Â
Also, explicitly banning and calling out âfemale-presenting nipplesâ - note thereâs an exception if itâs after giving birth or during breastfeeding because OBVIOUSLY the only way breasts and nipples are okay is when youâre fulfilling your goddamn job of being an incubator and not just posting nipples wilfully or for (gasp) money. Because obviously, when weâre talking about the banning of child pornopraphy we must target âfemale-presenting nipplesâ and let everyone know that those are the real problem. Nipples are only okay when theyâre âmale-presentingâ and in the proximity of a newborn that is confirmed yours.Â
Like câmon⌠FOSTA/SESTA has been presented under the guise of fighting human trafficking just like these moves are no different. If they wanted to go after these very real issues then they would and they definitely wouldnât be (dangerously) conflating the issues. Also why can I still look up violent pro-Nazi, antisemitic imagery but not a goddamn nipple??
BTW read into how Apple has been forcefully pushing for this move & how easily they can go after other NSFW-content websites and force them to comply.Â
âImagine a woman in the long skirts and high collar of the early 20th century standing in front of the painting she created. It is a massive pieceâabout 10 feet tall by 8 feet wideâand it is not a landscape, a portrait, a still life, nor a scene from myth or history. Dominating the composition is a bold yellow form reminiscent of a plant or sea creature, glowing amid colorful, biomorphic shapes and vigorous lines. This is just one of 10 such works that she has created almost entirely aloneâsometimes walking on her work as she lays down the paintâand one of 193 radically abstract paintings that she has made in a few short years, between 1906 and 1915. None of these details fit with the story told in museums and art history courses. We know the first abstract painters so well that we often refer to them by last names alone: Kandinsky, Malevich, Mondrian. We know who is celebrated for doing âaction paintingâ on giant canvases laid on the floorâPollock. Each of these men has been lauded for opening a way into new territory. As it turns out, that territory had already been explored by another artist. Her name was Hilma af Klint.â

Native American protest is an element of film history that has largely been ignored by film historians, even though racist depictions were consistently called out by Indigenous activists since 1911.

A pretty lady told me I reminded her of Juliette Binoche.
Researchers look at countries that have prohibited corporal punishment for kids and their rate of youth violence.
Now a new study looking at 400,000 youths from 88 countries around the world suggests such bans are making a difference in reducing youth violence. It marks the first systematic assessment of whether an association exists between a ban on corporal punishment and the frequency in which adolescents get into fights.Â
[F]or both boys and girls, [prof. Elizabeth Gershoff] said, âWe found [spanking] linked to more aggression, more delinquent behavior, more mental health problems, worse relationships with parents, and putting the children at higher risk for physical abuse from their parents.â
âPeople often ask: Why didnât you look for positive aspects?â she continued. âMy answer is: We did, and there were none. We see consistently that the more children are spanked, the more behavioral problems they have in the years ahead.â
