Crabbet Arabian Stallion WP Ibn Bayang
Dug through the Australian stud book to find his pedigree; it turns out he's Old English, rather than Crabbet, due to his dam. He has an interesting female line - he goes back to a grey Ma'naqiyah mare Nejdmieh from Saudi Arabia. She was gift from Emir Rashid of Ha'il (unfortunately I don't know which of the Rashidi emirs it was, as there were three of them between 1914 when she was foaled, and 1924, which is the only other date I have for her, when she was exported from England to Australia) to Enver Pasha, a leader of the Young Turk Revolution and an instigator of the Armenian and Greek genocides during and after the First World War. At the end of the war, the Sultan dismissed Enver Pasha, who fled the Ottoman Empire. It seems that Nejdmieh was left behind - Gazder says in The Arab Horse Families of Great Britain that she was "bought from his successors" by a Major Barker, exported to England, where she fell foul of Weatherby's decision to close the General Stud Book to new Arabian imports, and was sold by her then-owner Sidney Hough to Australia.
She left one daughter in England, but that line died out there; it might have survived in the Netherlands, I know I looked into this once, but I can't recall right now, and don't want to trace it. At any rate, she left a line in Australia, through her daughter Nejd Sherifa, by Nuri Sherif.
There's another technically Old English horse who I believe is exclusively found in Australian horses at the back of Ibn Bayang's pedigree, namely Kataf. His dam was mostly Crabbet, but his sire, Outlaw, was apparently a chestnut Kuhaylan Jallabi. He sired two daughters in England, but their line has died out in Arabians; it might still be going in Anglo-Arabians. His son Kataf was exported to Australia in 1935.
There's also the usual complement of Shahzada typical of the older Australian lines, and the Crabbet lines that died out everywhere else but survived in Australia. Going back through Australian Arabian pedigrees is a lot of fun, as I never know whether a name I haven't seen before will lead to a Crabbet or Shahzada through their Australian foals, or one of the uniquely Australian lines, like Magistrate.
Edit: I have just realised I do have an extra date for Nejdmieh, 1918, when Enver Pasha went into exile, which would then mean she was a gift from Sa'ud ibn 'Abdul'aziz Aal Rashid.
