something, many things, extremely unsettling about the idea that once a girl turns into an adult, the closest relationship she has in her life shouldn’t be with her mother, her siblings, her best friends at school

Y’all are NOT ready to hear about the sheer loneliness of an Indian woman (or several Asian women) in fact. The second you hit adolescence all relationships around you are over. If you’re one of the lucky few who can afford to still study and finish basic education then at maximum you get a small circle of friends. But as you get older into senior classes the more academics isolate you from relationships. Your friends all drift apart like you. And your family’s love becomes conditional to your grades. When you finally graduate and THINK you can make friends in college and catch up with family you’re married off to a COMPLETE stranger. You’re off to live with the complete stranger. You’re to serve that stranger’s family. Your in laws treat you like a gold clad maid. You work tirelessly all day, while his mother villainises you and (most Indian men) he won’t even defend you because they’re all mama’s boys. You are alone. You NEED PERMISSION to go out and have friends, but even going out alone or spending time with friends as a married woman is frowned upon as your first priority should be your husband and in laws. You need PERMISSION to see your own family. You are lonely with nobody but your emotionally illiterate mama’s boy husband.

How many crimes do men have to commit before people stop saying not all men and start acknowledging that patriarchy is violent? Because every time violence against women is exposed like rape, exploitation, trafficking and femicide. The first response isn’t outrage for the victims but damage control for men. "It’s not that many". "It’s not all men". "It’s exaggerated". Even when the facts are corrected, the focus is still protecting men’s reputations over confronting harm caused by them.

And when women do crimes everyone looses their marbles. I remember the blue drum case here in India which happened last year. I admit what the girl did was wrong, but the media kept banging pans about it for months on end with stuff like “betrayal of love” “betrayal of trust” “here is the zoom in of crying family cussing her out for a week straight or more”.

The existence of radical feminism is so incredible and I never see anyone talking about it. Somehow, after years of having anti-woman ideology hammered into us from all aspects of society, we break free of it and focus on our own goals in liberating ourselves and our sisters.
