After reading the lore tab on the new IB stuff about how Saladin felt helpless during the Red War I had some YW thoughts...
The YW doesnât share their Red War stories like other Guardians. They donât talk about it at all if they can get away with it. Itâs hard for them, not just because of what they had experienced but because their experience was so different to every other Guardian. There are some people who believe it had all been easier for them because they had their Light. They were the lucky one who avoided the worst of the pain.
Most people donât know how the YW escaped the city. They donât know about the confrontation with Ghaul and they donât know about how they fell, Lightless, crashing into the streets below. YW has never told anybody how it felt to wake up from the Travelerâs dream bleeding and broken, cold and wet. Nobody knows how every breath had rasped and rattled and hurt...They had been terrified and alone. They know people donât want to hear those stories. So, instead they let them twist and weave the story into a glorious tale of daring escape â the type worthy of the likes of Cayde.
The YW doesnât recognise themselves in most of the stories they tell about them. However, they never correct anybody because they donât feel that they have the right to. It feels wrong to share their sob stories because in the end they had the Light. They got it back. And with so much power who would believe you ever felt helpless?
