I think zen already had a good place in the meta, and that won’t change much; likewise with Lucio, bc they are both excellent choices for off-healers with Ana as a main healer. But even then, with ana being as strong as she has been these past few months, you can sometimes see successful high-level comps running a solo ana healer, 4 tanks and a DPS (usually mccree, soldier or hanzo). Like, calling it a tank meta is slightly misleading, bc tbh it’s an Ana meta; there is no way 4 tanks would be able to stay alive for long enough to eliminate the enemy team with any of the of the other supports right now. And I don’t think that’s what the developers wanted when they built her kit; it’s a cheese strategy that relies on outliving the enemy team by forgiving positioning mistakes (“oh, roadie tried to land a hook right in front of the whole enemy team and got focused down? No worries, ana’s already got him back to full”) and offsetting an innately lower damage output.And wrt mercy, I think she’s in need of a rehaul regardless, bc characters like ana and zen and Lucio have useful aspects of their kit to complement their healing (ana’s healing debuff, sleep dart and damage, zen’s discord orb and damage, lucio’ speed aura) that mercy just doesn’t have. So not only does she heal less than another healer (ana), but she can ONLY heal. Her pistol is awesome, but if her pistol is out, then she isn’t healing. With how she is now, mercy often doesn’t contribute as much as another hero would on a 6-person team.So maybe with ana’s nerf she’ll be seen more often, bc a good resurrect can still make or break a team fight, but her res is right now the only reason she’d be picked in high levels, which makes her extremely risky to play. If the player can’t get a lot of value out of her res, the fight is over. That’s a lot of pressure resting all on one ability IMO!It’s too early to tell how ana’s nerf will change the meta; even with her grenade being 50% less effective, she’s still a good burst healer and still a strong pick for heals. Ideally she will be able to pocket up to 2 tanks just as easily, but not like… 4 tanks, u know?
