It's a place

Funnily enough I rather thoroughly enjoyed Gens 4 and 5, specifically Platinum/HG/SS and B2/W2 respectively (I also really liked B/W with the exception of that final act and its bullshit level spike). In most cases you were forced to hoof it to progress anything, which sounds inconvenient (and to some extent it might be), but it feels like agency is lost when the game’s story plucks you out from what you’re doing and railroads you into something else for the majority of the game. But I suppose the feeling boils down to reasonable pacing; cutscenes being somewhat rare and therefor not stopping everything you’re doing to make you sit through it for 10 minutes each time, villain motivations are either well defined or just vague enough to be interesting until the ass-pull twist.

As far as performance goes, even X/Y was decent in that regard. Though there was that one bug that screwed over save files if they saved in Lumiose City.. which ONLY happened if the player had sloppily generated/blatantly cheated Pokemon on their file, which is still the funniest shit to me imo

Haven’t played a new Poke’ game in a while and I got it at a solid discount. People sure weren’t kidding about Gen VII being lackluster, and that speaks nothing of the poor design decisions and performance issues: fps chugs when there’s more than 2 pokemon on screen at once, the constant cuts to black to skip on animating anything (once you notice it you can’t NOT notice it), the constant railroading and forced cut scenes to pad out the play time, dullness of characters.. Just to name a few off the top of my head. I don’t recommend it.
