Early in the day, it was rumored the video for “Perfect,” the second single off Made in the A.M., was going to be released.

A few hours later, screenshots of the “Perfect” video begin to leak online.

Just before the backstage interview is filmed, Dan Wootton publishes an article titled “Cowell wants a newy Louis: 1D man shakes hands on Xfactor Job” for the 2016 season (which obviously never happened). “I’ve learned the ONE DIRECTION star has agreed in principle to join the panel on next year’s series after impressing SIMON COWELL during filming of his Judges’ Houses round.” 

Backstage before the show in Belfast, Louis still did an interview with Stephen Nolan who said “Congratulations” regarding the baby and Louis looked like someone shot him in the scrotum. 

Louis does other “dad” interviews before the show like there was nothing unusual going on.

In Style Magazine publishes a story online at 2:30PM EST announcing the birth of Louis’ child.

Jamie Lawson, the opening act for the show in Belfast, performs as scheduled.

Jim Clarke of Aiken PR, the PR firm for the promoter of the show (thanks @larrybitsandbobs) walks on stage an hour after the One Direction portion of the show was supposed to start to read a written statement saying the show was cancelled. “Unfortunately, the show tonight has been cancelled, as Liam has been taken ill. And while it is not serious, he is unable to perform tonight. A further statement will be made in the morning.”

Immediately, rumors begin to swirl because no official statement was being made for 12 hours. Dan Wootton tweeted he knew Liam wasn’t at the hospital in Belfast. Other security guards were reportedly telling fans the other Belfast concerts would likely be cancelled. 

Stephen Nolan, who earlier interviewed Louis, tweets Dan Wootton after the cancellation announcement to say he was supposed to interview Niall but was told he was sick, not Liam.

Harry, Louis and Niall all tweet hours after the show was cancelled. Louis is the only one to even mention Liam and an illness. 

Then, mere hours after the concert was cancelled and in the midst of a fandom-wide panic, Louis tweets a link to the Perfect video.

Niall is pictured out with Rory McIlroy on a crew member’s facebook page.

Simon gives an interview to Good Morning Britain in which he says he gave Louis parenting advice that was then published on People Magazines website at 8PM EST on the 20th, even though the interview didn’t air until the 22nd of October.  “I just said, ‘Enjoy it.’ If I had been his age and someone had said, ‘You’re going to have a baby,’ I’m not sure how I would have coped with it,” Cowell shares. “But he did call me and I said, ‘When you’ve embraced it, you’ll be amazed how much you are going to love it. It will change your life for the better.’ ”

A special Perfect EP featuring the new song “Home” is put on Spotify.

Louis then tweeted lyrics to the song and the house emoji.

So to recap: lots of big baby/2016 things regarding Louis and Simon are emphasized and announced in the hours leading up to the cancelled show, including a Simon interview on national TV in Britain where Simon said he gave Louis parenting advice that was then published in American media, as well, the continued interviews about the hiatus and Louis’ impending fatherhood, an American press outlet accidentally publishing an article about the birth of the baby, and Dan Wootton’s article saying Louis was going to be a full-time X Factor judge with Simon in 2016.

But Liam was the one who was supposedly ill. K.

The next day, 21 October 2015, the boys did a series of strange radio interviews to do damage control where Liam’s illness was glossed over or described in detail as having bad diarrhea. 

“Coping with diarrhea” indeed. 

The other 3 boys did a day of promo, they announced the first Belfast show would be made up the Friday of that week, and nobody ever talked about this weird ass day again.

YOU’RE RIGHT. EVERYONE SHOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT. AT ALL TIMES.

Remember that said club is literally called G-A-Y.

Remember the way he stood there and welcomed Niall smashing a giant cake in his face and then picked some up and rubbed it all over his face.

Remember the way he then spent their performance of WMYB licking white stuff off his fingers and rubbing it into his shirt and just generally looking REALLY HAPPY TO BE COVERED IN CREAM CAKE.

Remember the way he grabbed Harry. Twice.

Remember that he was SO ENGAGED and interactive with the audience.

And above all, remember that he has never, ever been more animated and enthusiastic in a performance before or since. Seriously, if you’ve never watched the video, please do yourself a favor and watch it immediately. I promise you you’ve never seen him like this before.

But I’m sure it was just because performing their own songs was new to them (and those pesky rumors hadn’t ruined his life yet) that he was so utterly in his element. And not for any other reason.
