the  excuse  she  offers  is  true :    clarke  doesn’t  have  time  for  anything  at  all  these  days .    she’s  always  working ,     even  now  while  octavia  chats  clarke’s  pencil  is  moving  across  the  page ,    copying  words  from  the  textbook  into  her  notes .    her  body  aches  from  soccer  practice ,    but  she  won’t  mention  it  to  her  friend .    god  knows  what  solution  octavia  might  offer .    it  would  probably  just  be  the  suggestion  of  a  hot  shower  but  she  wouldn’t  put  it  past  her  friend  to  propose  a  massage ,    and  clarke  wouldn’t  be  nearly  strong  enough  to  turn  her  down .    having  octavia’s  hands  all  over  her  would  be  a  sweet  torture  that  clarke  isn’t  sure  she  could  take .    ❝    you  think  we  should  go  to  every  party ,    ❞     she  mumbles ,     still  staring  at  the  neat  lines  of  her  notes .    clarke  is  more  inclined  to  agree  at  the  mention  monty’s  name .    she  likes  him ,    and  more  than  that  she  trusts  him .    his  parties  never  include  the  wandering  hands  or  out  of  control  characters  clarke  tries  to  keep  herself  and  octavia  away  from .     ❝    i  have  to  finish  this  chapter .    ❞  

and  it’s  in  situations  like  these     ,     octavia  wonders  how  they  could  even  stay  friends     .     she  loves  clarke  to  the  end  of  the  world     :     but  the  two  girls  couldn’t  be  more  unlike  one  another     .     and  maybe  that’s  the  thing  that  made  them  work  so  well     (     and  a  silent  blessing  to  her  brother     ,     who  only  had  good  to  say  about  her  after  clarke  kept  octavia  out  of  more  trouble  than  she  got  into     .    )     octavia  too  reckless  for  her  own  good     :     managing  to  bring  clarke  with  her  on  some  of  her  adventures  which  she  only  saw  as  a  win  every  time     ,     but  also  on  the  other  hand     ,     was  being  held  back  from  doing  everything  she  wanted     .     didn’t  mean  octavia  wouldn’t  work  hard  every  single  time  to  go  outside  instead  of  sitting  in  her  bedroom  all  night  tho     .
