IN PEACE, MAY you leave the shore. in love, may you find the next. safe passage on your travels, until our finally journey to the ground. may we meet again . he’d been silent all day, throat too tight for any words to even force their way through. people had tried to talk to him, give him condolences, but he’d stayed quiet and barely acknowledged any of them. he didn’t understand what was happening. everything had happened too quickly . it was only a few days his mother was sneaking him and clarke sweets before dinner and now ━
he wasn’t sure how he’d made it back down here, or how long ago he’d left the crowd of near strangers, staring at glass and metal with an almost uninterested expression. hours ago he’d watched the doors close as a BARRIER between him and one of the most important people in his life with the same expression, no tears or screams, but silence. the only reaction he’d had was tightening his grip on the metal ring and chain coiled around his hand, fingers digging the piece of jewelry almost painfully into his palm.
he’s suddenly on his knees, far closer to the glass than he had been before, forehead pressing against it’s cool exterior. eyes slide shut and mouth opens, but not surprisingly nothing can find it’s way out. he waits for something, ANYTHING , but all he feels is a hollowness in his chest and overwhelming numbness throughout his limbs. he has the awareness to feel uncomfortable with how empty he feels, but before his mind can fully acknowledge the feeling, he senses the weight of someone at his side, their hand slipping into his free one. they entwine their fingers together comfortingly and the ark prince doesn’t even need to open his eyes to recognize who the cascading WARMTH is coming from.
he feels her squeeze his hand in her’s and it’s like his heart has been kick-started in his chest. it thumps loud and VIOLENT in his chest and wells finally let’s out a sob, echoing through the halls. he presses his mother’s ring , hanging from an old chain abby had given him, into his chest and crumples fully against the glass. “ she can’t be ━ she can’t be GONE . clarke ━ ” another sob cuts him off as he leans into the glow of his best friend seeking a comfort he knows only she can provide.
