I love when someone is explaining instructions to a group I’m in and they look at me and it reminds them to say something about using preferred names/pronouns or that there’s vegan food options available. It is slightly concerning to me that a number of people in the UK are not aware that the Thames has an extremely strong and dangerous undercurrent that will swiftly drown you if you attempt to swim in it. I understand that the pollution is also terrible but please know that it’s not just the pollution. It will kill you. You can’t swim in the Thames, it will drag you under no matter how strong of a swimmer you are. I’m really not trying to be the fun police here, a lot of rivers in the UK are deceptively dangerous. Even rivers that appear to be simple streams can kill you. The River Wharfe is the most dangerous river in the UK and some areas of it look like innocent streams to paddle in. Everyone who has ever set foot in it has drowned. Please y’all I’m tired. I’ve had everyone and their uncle telling me that I’m being too strict about all rivers, lakes or what have you, but my post specifically mentions both the Thames and the UK for a reason. Our rivers want to kill you.
