does anyone else ever get a sense of deep-seated dread whenever a popular youtuber or other celebrity-type completely changes their persona character entirely without warning

yes i know that twitter is a cesspool that will sap away all your happiness like a black hole but does anyone else notice that whenever someone on youtube complains about "miserable twitter mfers" "twitter being twitter" "ofc it's twitter" it's always directed towards people on the website who are actively trying to call out and bring attention to racist/sexist/queerphobic/etc behaviors coming from a particular online celebrity or a really popular piece of media

people always act like that a fandom is automatically "toxic" if the members of it tend to be critical and argumentive instead of docile and "pleasant", but actually. you know how even the most loving couples sometimes get into arguments as a way to work out issues with each other/their current situation. i think it's the same with fandoms. because calling out racist and misogynistic and pedophilic and whatever attitudes whenever they happen is really fucking important for maintaining a healthy community that sets up healthy boundaries. it looks harsh and "mean" but it's actually extremely beneficial and necessary for the safety and comfort of everyone in the group. and if that community ends up developing an ear-plugging laissez-faire "let people enjoy things" attitude towards these damning issues, it will turn into a group of really nasty people hiding underneath amicable surfaces that unwillingly attracts bigots and has a shitton of subconscious biases that desperately need to be unpacked. this is how you get things like a chunk of the TADC fandom expressing extremely anti-black behavior whenever black people criticize their favorite show or the people behind it, or the Blue Archive fanbase claiming to be "the most chill fandom" despite rabidly going out for blood at any yuri artists/actual fucking lesbians they come across and defending/consuming so much straight-up CSEM it would make an epstein islander blush, with both said communities thinking they're less "toxic" than everyone else just because they're more complacent with eachother...
