is your work really "indie" anymore when you've got yourself a fucking fortnite deal. are you really ever going to "revolutionize the animation industry" when you've sold yourself out to the very capitalistic ideals that are killing it instead of managing to succeed outside of its cruel all-encompassing grasp. are you really doing anything new and artistic and subversive with the very idea of "animation" as a whole when you've followed the same trends, the same cliches, and made yourself palatable and marketable enough to sustain yourself off advertising just like every other fucking thing before it. are you truly ever free? or do you see yourself being accepted and welcomed into such oppressive systems so that they don't hurt you anymore as "freedom"?

like i don't know how but it feels like online at large has forgotten than criticism is a normal part of releasing a piece of media into the world it is perfectly normal for people to criticize or dislike something and yet every time something new and popular gets criticism you get thousands of bad thinkpieces that all look like this

i'm not so sure if i'm gonna even do any artfight this year cuz i have a lot of weird stupid irl bullshit to deal with (that i DON'T want to deal with) and it's sapping my art motivation and i basically only closely-finished a ref sheet for like. one oc. and i have a bunch of ocs i wanna makes ref sheets for or add new refs to but I HATE HAVING TO MAKE REF SHEETS I WISH I COULD JUST PSYCHICALLY PROJECT THE EXACT IMAGE OF MY VERY OC FROM MY MIND TO THE SCREEN GODDAMNIT (explodes). maybe i might settle for quick rough sketches instead of fully finished pieces if i wanna participate but ehhhhhhhh
