the transhumanism conversation of cyberpunk 2077 is so fascinating, especially in regards to the soul. it’s said multiple times that soulkiller “does exactly what it sets out to do” in that it replicates everything but the soul, leaving that final, crucial component to die along with the victim’s body. we can see a perfect example of the soulless nature of engrams with jackie’s during the devil ending; he was a caricature of the jackie that once lived. misty even makes a point of saying that there was more to him than what most people saw. as an engram, all of his layers had been stripped away, leaving only the most surface level version that a casual acquaintance might recognise as jackie welles.
naturally, i don’t think many would classify jackie as human any longer at that point. but what about johnny? why is he more human than jackie in the same engrammatic state?
when v talks to the monks after the pisces questline, there’s a really interesting dialogue about what makes someone / something human and there was particular emphasis on suffering. if an engram or digitised psyche can experience suffer, then they are a real person.
i think we can all agree that johnny suffers A Lot but that’s entirely because of his proximity to v. the busted state of the relic allows him to suffer and experience and live alongside v as if he were them. his soul may have been destroyed in 2023, but his ability to share v’s is the only reason he’s not a husk of his living self. his access to their soul is what makes him human.

EDIT: okay a lot of ppl have made two really interesting points that i wanna add:
- jackie’s engram was made after he died vs johnny’s being made as he died. so naturally, johnny is gonna have more personality and “humanity”
- there’s evidence of johnny suffering as an engram before v’s involvement. i worded the og post the way i did because he describes mikoshi as sleep, so i suppose i interpreted it as the pain only becoming apparent once he had “woken up” which doesn’t necessarily negate the presence of suffering before so .. i was wrong i apologise 🙏

xAa is 'to throw/dispatch/abandon' because fAj is the verb 'to weigh' (this can be checked on the Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae), .tj should be =k as already pointed out.
Thus with xAa as the imperative 'dispact/throw', the scales determinative doesn't belong to that word and is thus a word in and of itself the 3-consonant jws.w (the .w is just a plural, it's still 3-consonants), and then .tj which should be =k.
It's more: xAa jws.w ib=k 'chuck your heart on the scales' *ma'at gets obliterated* ptr 'what'.
As an aside; it's not good practice with Middle Egyptian to go 'we can infer this from context' when you can't find that word in one dictionary. You should be consulting at least three. Also, because my ass has been doing this for nearly 20 years, just so you're all aware xAa is in Faulkner:

i did the press junket for House of the Dragon Season 3 yesterday, and it was a WILD time. kinda like getting married: there's lots of running around and putting on clothes and hair and makeup and people asking fun questions, and then big emotions and crowds
favourite question was the reporter who asked me what kind of dragon I would want and I got to gush about the Eragon series for like 5 minutes. saw a post about this earlier but it made me think: tumblr really is the only social media site where I go on and have a good time and then carry on with my day.
