Alright. I want to keep my heart open, idk what I liked about it. Some things for sure! Maybe not what matters? idk
Things I liked:
I think it's fun that the somnus in ardyn's head and the somnus we fight seem to be two different guys. ardyn spends 2000 alone ruminating and builds an idea of his brother that only knows how to be cruel is a good character element. that we can't know whether somnus really thought he was doing some good or if he was simply jealous is a good story element
I appreciate that they're kinda sorta giving more space for the old wall. it doesn't really bring much and it feels a little like they want to get the most return on investment for their assets but it's nice still to see it become more of a game element
the framing of the end makes it feel a little bit like it's all potentially a hallucination/dream/projection from bahamut and so you can sort of handwave anything that doesn't make perfect sense and so. I can keep my heart more open for the stuff that makes me go eeeehhhh. is it a little bit embarrassing that this is a good point? maybe. whatever
And the lore dump of course. How could I forget. I don't know what to make of all of it but I'm glad it's here
Gladio is the "dad who didn't want the cat" meme but the cat is a guy 3 years younger than him

I'm sure we have discussed this before and I simply forgot but the Cartanica tomb being the oldest one is so fun. The kings of Lucis ruling on land as far as Niflheim. The first King after the fall of Solheim probably, so before Lucis was even a thing, maybe? Did they move afterwards or have they consistently been losing territory much earlier than the 30 years of war... square please give us more secret ffxv lore. I promise I'll stop badmouthing you if you release more ffxv stuff. This is so much fun
Huh. Okay so Somnus' weapon is the Blad of the Mystic implying it is him that is buried in the disc of Cauthess but then what about the Warrior in Cartanica... is he older than that? Were Ardyn and him not the beginning of the line? Is it just square enix forgetting things along?
Like, I was just thinking "maybe Niflheim knew to find Ardyn in Angelgard because they have the first tomb on their soil, and Solheim was an all-spanning empire so it's possible that they have this history in common with Lucis" (wouldn't it be a fun thought to rotate... common origin but centuries of war reduced Lucis to the other side of the sea, taking the legacy of this history with them... anyway) and then there is one of Besithia's diaries hashtag confirming that they found the info in one of the royal tombs, but... not Somnus' then?
Hm. Apparently I missed a codex entry in Cartanica. Sad about my theory failing :/
Well. Beisithia's lab is also saying that Solheim wasn't the all-spanning empire described by Gentiana/Shiva but was only covering Duscae and Cleigne.
Also they're saying that humans first appeared near the giant volcanic (?) crater in the snowy regions of Niflheim and that makes it insanely funny. Ifrit, god of fire, waited until humans had travelled allllll the way through the icy mountains and the whole ass sea before offering them fire. Nice gift dude. Dont you think maybe they would have appreciated it a little earlier..?

Okay..brainstorming moment.
In perpetouss fort, the ffxiv special mission, the guys are surprised that the ffxiv girl (I forgot her name I'm sorry) can use magic. Indeed, as far as lore goes, wielding magic isn't a thing for most people in ffxv, its a privilege of the lucis line and the oracles. And my guys can only use the magic that noctis puts in bottles for them to use. Because he is the only one who can absorb the elemental magic from the natural sources of the world.
However.
Well, first of all, there has to be Some sort of magic extracting process existing somewhere because you can also find this elemental magic in canisters. I Hve no proof that those are used to make materia (it feels a little bit like they are like batteries? Idk) but they are lying around in different places, especially military bases or ex military bases.
Second of all, we do see Crowe and a bunch of the glaives summoning a storm in the movie. Now tbh I don't really hold the movie as canon in regards to the specific mechanics of the magic, but it's still there. .
Third, I... well. I was gonna say, there are obvious cases where animals wield magic, but actually ?? Not that much?? Cœurls, and maybe that's it? All the other ones I think of, of the top of my head, are actually dæmons, not beasts..... which has some seriously interesting implications, so wait
Four. Many dæmons can wield magic. Deamons aren't necessarily humans turned into monsters, animals can also become infected. So it might be some natural magic that gets carried over from animals that have mutated, but it can also be that the infection makes organisms able to manipulate magic. And the cases of daemons that have maintained some aspect of human ego - the snake woman who captures prompto in greyshire, and melusine - they don't have elemental magic but they have debuff magic (poison, frog, petrify).
I don't really know what my question is. I'm very tired. Do we think that only humans can't have innate magic ? Do we think plasmodium gives people innate magic? Have you noticed other things that could make or break a hypothesis? Please share! This is a thought in process
Allez. Venez on finit ffxv -> https://www.twitch.tv/kanayaga
