Dollis Dolls would like to thank Youth Realities for getting us to creatively think about good and positive friendships using art and drama (with a bit of a dance at the end!)

The girls used creative exercises to explore what it means to be a good friend; also highlighting how language is used towards one another.  The girls had the chance to look into some of the fundamentals of what it means to be a good friend and work on their acting skills too! Thank you Youth Realities!

Over here at Dollis Dolls we’re about to celebrate being around for 5 years! #GoTeamDD! Across both pop-up nail bars we’ve managed to support over 500+ young women and girls throughout the years. 

The young women we met told us they wanted to “put the estate on the map for something positive, not just negative things like stabbings”.

5 years later they’ve done just that.  

Mediorite visited us for a session to capture the story, and work with the girls to create a short video talking about the impact Dollis Dolls has had in their lives.

We totally get it.. Summer’s over and it’s back to education, exams and everything else! Dollis Dolls wanted to help out by teaching the girls a few breathing stretches and exercises that could help levitate some of those daily stresses.

Dollis Dolls had the pleasure of having Unruly Beauty host a Festival MakeUp session! Teaching the girls how to get really creative and glammed up with glitter, gems, colours and of course... more glitter!

10 Pointers to Improve Your Caring!

1.   Socialize by doing activities on a regular basis  

2.   Spend quality time together

3.   Listen – allow them to talk to you

4.   Reassure them that they can speak honestly to you and you won’t judge them

HOW TO MAKE SLIME

OPTIONS

Blue tack + Fairy Liquid + Water = Slime

Glue + Borax with boiling water + Shaving cream = Slime

Shampoo + Salt, put it in the freezer for 5 minutes = Slime

MATERIALS

1  bottle of white PVA glue

Shaving cream (the foam kind, not the gel or cream kind)

Borax solution (1 cup warm water with 1 teaspoon borax, mixed until clear)

Eye contact solution (optional)

Food coloring (optional)

Essential oils (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

#1. Squeeze one bottle of white glue into a medium bowl.

#2. Stir in 1/2 cup to 1 cup of shaving foam, depending on how fluffy you want your slime to be.

#3. Add food coloring to color desired and stir.

#4. Mix in a few squirts of eye contact solution (this is supposed to make it less sticky).

#6. Knead the slime.

If it’s too sticky, add more solution. If it seems to need more glue or shaving cream or color, you can knead that in, too.

And, if you want your fluffy slime to be scented, knead in a few drops of essential oil.

#7. Store in a covered container or plastic bag to keep from drying out.

10 Things I love about Me!

It’s important to remind yourself of how awesome you are from time to time.. Here’s a few things our girls love about themselves... Feel free to create your own poster and fall in love with yourself all over again!

Twenty-Seventeen has been such a fun and empowering year so far with a trip to see the theater production ‘Wicked’, the birth of our new ‘Dollis Dolls Scrapbook’ capturing some of our thoughts on good and bad habits, friendship, and questions like “What would you say to your younger / older self?”.  

We started to explore the different types of relationships we have, we started off with #NationalSendACardToAFriendDay.  We spoke about how we treat one another in friendships.. Good & bad.. Let’s be real... but also about how to strengthen and appreciate our friendships, and sometimes learn to distance ourselves from other ones... 

We’ve also been creating positive mood boards reminding ourselves of the queens that we are, and of course… Keeping those nails on fleek!

Social Media was booming with reminders about registering to vote, so you know Dollis Dolls had to get involved! It’s imperative as young people we understand how important it is to have your say and get involved!
