When you strike back so hard against an enemy that you apparently kill about fifty different versions of them.
I have the current playthrough set up, through the power of mods, where the player character can change everything about themselves, effectively allowing for a joint run where the thre 'arcane knowledge'-associated gods can switch off with each other. To do that, they each need a secondary version of themselves created with a custom hirelings mod. [The lore is something with a willing shape-shifting mortal conduit, given the things I cannot change.]
Mischief was in charge first, and the first time I went to camp after creating all necessary characters, I found this:
Hireling Mischief was dead on the ground near the campfire with no option to revive. Subsequent attempts at re-creating the character resulted in spawning in dead. These COULD be resurrected, but would just say they were too busy to talk. Guess someone didn't want to share the leadership role?
Also, Raphael showed up (before I had to go back and redo a fair bit of Act I), and I changed nothing between these shots:
...Okay.
Playing BG3 tonight, and thanks to @neredoesnotfail I usually try to avoid killing Nere, but the problem is the least evil way to do that involves a bit of mind control, which all wraiths hate.
So I rationalized that okay, it kind of seems clear that he's already being controlled; this is fighting fire with fire, so to speak, with the intent of freeing him. Then, with Nere alive and well (...ish), the game did this:
That's Nere's tadpole. While Nere is still wandering around in the background. Patrick cured him, apparently.
Which makes a weird amount of sense. The "rule-bending" earlier would have him implying to himself that this particular mortal was extremely important to him, so might as well just shatter a bunch of rules now!
Lionel as cursed/doomed
Most of the time, he reaches a point in his life where there are a maximum of two possibilities open to him:
Lose all faith in humanity, die, and come back a horror; or
2. End up alone in a world devoid of all other human life, perhaps chronicling their extinction in an attempt to summon their ghosts (generally not in a literal sense) for a few precious moments.

Like for a starter! Let me know if you have a verse preference.
While Lionel was technically a widowed single father after Idris died, he never had to parent their children alone. His lost love's mother returned, and Lucy joined the household almost desperate to help (feeling as though she'd lost her purpose when her own mother died), and even after both of them were gone, Adrian acted as a second father to the two surviving children.
Like for a starter! Let me know if you have a verse preference.
Lionel, like most rational people, fears serial killers. He'd be even more fearful if he suddenly encountered an eldritch horror one day. But his hatred of being alone runs deep. If he were trapped with either as the only other being on a deserted island, and he knew nothing about them beyond what they were, it would take no more than a few weeks before he tried making friends. Even if it ends in attempted murder, at least that's a form of interaction.
The Last Unicorn (1982) starters.
❛ I dislike the feel of these woods. ❜
❛ Unicorns? I thought they only existed in fairytales. ❜
❛ This is a forest like any other. Isn’t it ? ❜
❛ Let’s turn around. Hunt somewhere else. ❜
❛ This is no world for you. ❜
❛ Good luck to you, for you are the last. ❜
❛ What do men know ? ❜
❛ We are as old as the sky, old as the moon. ❜
❛ We can be hunted, we can be trapped, we can even be killed but we do not vanish ! ❜
❛ Have you traveled very far ? ❜
❛ Be a little respectful, do you know who I am ? ❜
❛ Your name is a golden bell, hung in my heart. ❜
❛ I would break my body to pieces to call you once by your name. ❜
❛ In all your wanderings, have you seen others like me ? ❜
❛ Have you seen the others? Where have they gone? Tell me which way I must go to find them. ❜
❛ No, no, listen ! Don’t listen to me, listen ! ❜
❛ You can find the others if you are brave. ❜
❛ What if they’re waiting for me ? In need of my help ? ❜
❛ Well hello there little one ! ❜
❛ And just who might you belong to ? a pretty little thing like you ? ❜
❛ In my heart I carry such a heavy load. ❜
❛ And here I thought I’d seen the last of them ! ❜
❛ I know you. If I were blind I would know what you are. ❜
❛ You wouldn’t have heard of me. ❜
❛ It’s not much of a job for a real magician, but I’ve had worse. ❜
❛ You’re mine. If you kill me, you’re still mine. ❜
❛ Your death sits in that cage and she hears you. ❜
❛ She’ll kill me one day or another, but she will remember forever that I caught her, that I held her prisoner. So there’s my immortality. ❜
❛ You were out on the road hunting for your own death ! ❜
❛ He’ll not have you ! You belong to me. ❜
❛ We are two sides of the same magic. ❜
❛ You are safer here. You should thank me for protecting you. ❜
❛ There has never been a spell on me before. ❜
❛ It’s a very rare person who is taken for what he truly is. ❜
❛ Will you help me ? ❜
❛ You’re my last chance. ❜
❛ Can you truly set me free ? ❜
❛ I asked him a riddle and it always takes that lout all night to solve riddles. ❜
❛ the spell was wrong but there was true magic in it ! try again. ❜
❛ My dear you deserve the services of a great wizard but I’m afraid you’ll have to be glad of the aide of a second rate pickpocket. ❜
❛ Okay, (name), I give up. Why is a raven like a writing desk ? ❜
❛ She’ll kill you if you set her free ! ❜
❛ Don’t look back, and don’t run. ❜
❛ You must never run from anything immortal, it attracts their attention. ❜
❛ She chose her death long ago. It was the fate she wanted. ❜
❛ You have no regrets as I do ? ❜
❛ I’ve never seen anyone like you. Not while I was awake, anyway. ❜
❛ I’m going where they are, to learn whatever they know. ❜
❛ Take me with you ! for luck, for laughs, for the unknown. ❜
❛ You could never have granted my true wish. ❜
❛ I cannot turn you into something you are not. ❜
❛ Hide yourself ! We’ll find each other later. ❜
❛ Mind your heads now, it’s raining ninnies ! ❜
❛ Put me down you fool ! ❜
❛ I don’t like the look of him. ❜
❛ That’s only (name)’s way, but she has a good heart. ❜
❛ This is not happening. ❜
❛ We’ll both be gentlemen of leisure in a months time. ❜
❛ Oh, I love you. ❜
❛ She shall never have you ! ❜
❛ We will perish together. ❜
❛ Did you see me ? Were you watching ? ❜
❛ Did you see what I made ? ❜
❛ It’s gone now, but I had it ! ❜
❛ Where have you been ? Where have you been ! ? ❜
❛ Where were you when I was new ? ❜
❛ How dare you come to me now when I am this ! ❜
❛ It’s alright, I forgive you. ❜
❛ You can’t come with us ! we’re on a quest ! ❜
❛ Well, you’re going the wrong way. ❜
❛ You have all the power you need if you dare to look for it. ❜
❛ What have you done ! ? ❜
❛ The power will come to me whenever I need it, and one day! One day it will come to me when I call ! ❜
❛ You are an idiot ! ❜
❛ Don’t ! Don’t you hurt yourself ! ❜
❛ I can feel this body dying all around me ! ❜
❛ You are losing my interest, and that is very dangerous. ❜
❛ I will keep nothing near me that does not make me happy. ❜
❛ How would you know ? ❜
❛ Well, just look at you ! ❜
❛ Come on, I’ll write you a reference. ❜
❛ You have let your doom in by the front door ! ❜
❛ What are you looking at ? ❜
❛ What is the matter with your eyes ? ❜
❛ You may come and go as you please. ❜
❛ My secrets guard themselves, may yours do the same. ❜
❛ Please, let me help you. What can I do for you ? ❜
❛ And then she looked at me and I was sorry I had killed the thing. ❜
❛ For her sake I’ve become a hero but my great deeds mean nothing to her ! ❜
❛ I wish to be whatever she has most need of. ❜
❛ You are cruel to him. ❜
❛ He only wishes you to think of him. ❜
❛ Who am I ? Why am I here ? ❜
❛ I knew a moment ago, but I have forgotten. ❜
❛ I was innocent and wise and full of pain. ❜
❛ Now that I’m a woman, everything has changed. ❜
❛ Why won’t you help me ? Why must you always speak in riddles ? ❜
❛ I would tell you what you want to know if I could. ❜
❛ I am always dreaming, even when I am awake. It is never finished. ❜
❛ I would court you with more grace if I knew how. ❜
❛ Drown out my dreams. Keep me from remembering whatever wants me to remember it. ❜
❛ Words are always getting in my way. ❜
❛ That’s all I have to tell you. That’s all I’ve got to say. ❜
❛ I’m not a man of poetry. Music isn’t one with me. ❜
❛ As if I didn’t have enough troubles. ❜
❛ Well of course you’re of noble birth, anyone could see that. ❜
❛ Love is slowing you down, my lady. ❜
❛ It was pleasant enough at first, but it died quickly. ❜
❛ There is nothing of yours that I desire. ❜
❛ There is no movement of yours that has not betrayed you. ❜
❛ I like to watch them. They fill me with joy. ❜
❛ The first time I felt it, I thought I was going to die. ❜
❛ Do you dare still pretend to be human ? ❜
❛ It makes no difference. The end will be the same. I can wait. ❜
❛ Shut up you pretentious kneecap ! ❜
❛ How would you like a punch in the eye ? ❜
❛ It’s so nice to have someone to play with. ❜
❛ Try me tomorrow. Maybe I’ll tell you tomorrow. ❜
❛ Give it to me if you don’t want it but don’t throw it away ! ❜
❛ Give me the wine ! ❜
❛ You would have gone without me ? ❜
❛ No name you could give her would surprise or frighten me. ❜
❛ I love whom I love. ❜
❛ I will go no further. ❜
❛ Everything dies. I want to die when you die. ❜
❛ Yes, that is my wish. ❜
❛ I am a hero, and heroes know that things must happen when it is time for them to happen. ❜
❛ A quest may not simply be abandoned. ❜
❛ A happy ending cannot come in the middle of the story. ❜
❛ What if there isn’t a happy ending at all ? ❜
❛ There are no happy endings, because nothing ends. ❜
❛ Do something ! You have the power ! I will kill you if you don’t do something ! ❜
❛ That’s what heroes are for. ❜
❛ I’ve never had any friends before. ❜
❛ Men don’t always know when they’re happy. ❜
❛ I’m sorry. I have done you evil and I cannot undo it. ❜
❛ No sorrow will live in me as long as that joy. ❜

Lionel Verney
Indie rp account for Lionel Verney (based on/ heavily inspired by the character from Mary Shelley's The Last Man). 1700s verse, modern verse, high fantasy. TW in his default storyline for plague, and to a lesser extent, religious content. It may not come up often, but probably more than on my main blog. He's fairly devout, but accepting of those with different beliefs. At least half of his nearest and dearest are pagans or atheists, after all.
Carrd (under construction)
Poor, darling Idris! Lionel had begged to stay by her side (too little, too late), but she’d insisted he carry on their old tradition, even as she refused to take solace in the glades and the river with him. She was untouchable in a grief he could not (dared not) fully match.
“The moon is risen, beaming,
The golden stars are gleaming
So brightly in the skies—”
He’d sung the words aloud without really meaning to, unnerved by the solitude of his lonely ramble. It was only then that he noticed the stranger. Odd, given where she was standing, that he hadn’t seen her earlier. Still, he cast the thought aside, giving the stranger a smile.
“Welcome. Are you a friend of Idris?”
Many sympathetic neighbors had come to their door in recent months, always with gifts Idris had always privately seemed a little distressed to receive. But friend, neighbor, or unknown wanderer, they made space for all possible guests, even at a time like this.
My Ideal Frankenstein Video Game
Everyone would start out playing as Victor. When the creation comes to life, players would be able to choose to follow him or stay as Victor. Either way, the player makes choices that either keep them on the story's canonical path, or start altering the world around them.
During the first confrontation between creator and creation, players who chose Victor would then have a more limited gameplay segment playing the Creature as he tells his story. Having had a chance to get to know both of them, players have one more option to switch characters at this point. Both would react to the player's choices.
Victor would not acknowledge the player directly at first, but the more they make choices that are out of his usual character/ not what he'd do on his own, the more Victor talks like he believes he's going mad, or, at worst, is being driven by some evil force. If the player makes too many choices that Victor wouldn't, Frankenstein eventually becomes openly defiant. He is no longer directly controllable unless the player repeatedly chooses an option to break him. Do it, and the game ends with Victor in a madhouse.
If they don't crush Victor's spirit, a player who's consistently pushed Victor to be kind up can still shame him into a peaceful resolution. If, however, the player has chosen mostly cruel/callous options, Victor ends up leaving his own trail of destruction in his wake as he pursues his hated creation -- not actively seeking to hurt others, but seemingly no longer caring how his actions affect them.
The Creature, on the other hand, treats the player more as a guide, actively requesting advice from time to time. If they dissuade him from killing his canonical victims, he thanks them for helping him remain good. If they push him to even greater violence, he acts like he's indulging both the player and his own worst impulses. Insisting he kill an entire city full of NPCs eventually becomes an option.
Should the player manage to keep him alive during the tough fights that follow, he seemingly goes from wild despair to a state of euphoria, telling the player he will continue to torment humankind in their name, and declaring this the Day of Judgment.
I'm posting this here instead of just on my sideblog because I think a few of my mutuals have muses who'd have Feelings about this.
Adam likely spends quite some time with the belief that, in society, beauty = a degree of safety. In his view, most humans are naturally drawn to protect all that is lovely in the world, whether beautiful people or beautiful things. After all, he has a strong inclination to that himself, even if it's dampened by bitterness. Marred by his deep shame, and his anger at the cruelty of humankind, he still finds such moments of joy in the existence of beauty.
Even once he starts to learn how often beautiful people are just treated as pretty things, well, better a lovely ornament than a wretched waste fit only for destruction.
For most of his existence, with everything he feels is truly his to trade, he'd give anything but his life to be beautiful, or even just have an ordinary visage. His health, sanity, freedom... he'd give them up in a heartbeat.
And if he ever finds a way to disguise his appearance, whether through magic, holograms/robotic avatars/etc or just heavy makeup and hiding under many many layers of clothing, even people who know what he looks like and have successfully ensured him they don't care will almost never see him in his true form if he can avoid it.
There's one big reason I don't have a present day verse for Adam without significant changes in 200+ years. Four years of total isolation was bad enough. Much longer, and he'd lose any shred of sanity. If he's unable to die, he'd get to the place where he'd do anything to either end his isolation, or remove his own desire for companionship. Kidnapping, soul-selling, letting another mad scientist tear him open just so he won't be alone, becoming the servant or living art piece or plaything of an ancient monster far more evil than he could ever be... in the end, nothing would be off the table.
He still might kill someone who mistreated him, if defiant rage managed to outweigh his desperation long enough for him to try, but he'd wind up falling back into the same old patterns once the loneliness overwhelmed him again.
Even though he's reluctant to risk this lest he (or his corpse) eventually gives someone the idea to follow in Victor's footsteps, I also don't think he'd be able to hold out more than a few decades at most before he openly strolled into the biggest city he could find.

Since I sometimes only have the mental energy to write headcanons, I'm turning my sideblog @doesmandecide into a general meme, headcanon, etc. blog so I don't clog anyone's dash here when that happens. I'm still working on a return here, too, but will continue to be very, very slow until after my vacation next week.
For good or ill, most chemicals that would normally interact with the human body have no effect on Adam. That means if he’s exposed to something, he must try to figure out what it is, and decide whether to mimic the typical effects. At times, he has only seconds to make this choice. Although he’s become adept at doing so, he can and has misidentified compounds before. It is often better, in his view, not to attempt the deception at all.
There are also times he’s unaware of the exposure to begin with, and so can neither react, nor warn anyone else who might be at risk. When he does know, however, he’s more likely to attempt a feint if he thinks someone is trying to drug/sedate him. It’s rarely practical with poison, unless he means to lure someone in close so he can more easily snap their neck.
