I've been really living in the world where Sylvia is a freak even to Draagoshkas. I like to think that she would normally be a candidate for reconditioning but whatever her deal is, she's managed to position herself as so valuable to Draag's goals that she can get away with being weird in a way that others would never be allowed to. You don't see Tucker wearing elbow length fetish gloves for example. The implications of this of course include
The rejection she faces from everyone else is a source of pride rather than a source of shame. It doesn't hurt like it used to, it's a good thing, a mark of her superiority even. They just don't understand because they're not on the same level as her. Maybe they even envy her, that they aren't useful enough to act as she does! Of course! Who wouldn't?
(You don't need to waste time and resources reconditioning someone who is primed to do it themselves.)
If she can rise to her position, everyone else like her has no excuse. The Most Exalted Vocalist is particularly contemptible in this regard, like a mirror into a version of herself with no fortitude. Always sniveling and begging not to be hit. They're almost too pathetic to hate. Almost. How hard is it to listen to reason?
(If she acknowledges the harm done to them, she will be forced to acknowledge that harm has been done to her, that she has worked tirelessly to further the forces that beat down on her.)
She's too big of an asset to jeopardize. Nothing bad can happen to her, not when she serves such a critical function. She's untouchable. Invincible.
(The moment she stops being useful she'll go into the cell right next to the Most Exalted Vocalist.)
(The moment she realizes any of the things in these parentheticals is the moment she stops being useful.)
(She's too smart to not figure it out eventually.)
(You don't need to waste time and resources reconditioning someone who is primed to do it themselves.)
(You don't need to waste time and resources reconditioning someone who is trained to do it themselves.)
(You don't need to waste time and resources reconditioning someone who has keycard access to the machines.)
