ok so if everythings normal, your phone camera should have a manual mode (sometimes called pro mode). in it, change the settings of the shutter lag to 20 seconds, then put the phone down on some stable, plane surface and press the photo button (usually when using your camera, the volume buttons can be used as photo button) and let the phone still for the whole 20 seconds. 

Additionally, adjust your ISO to the highest number (mimics the film used for very low light and low speed images)

And set your shutter speed to the longest time possible (on my phone it’s 10 seconds).

Leave your focus settings on Auto, and if your phone camera has a timer option, turn that on (five seconds is generally enough).

Plan your shot first, then find a place to set your phone down so you can get the image you want. The less light pollution, the better; you’ll pick up FAR more stars in your picture.

Once you know what you want to shoot, tap your screen to “focus” it, then hit the button to take the picture, set your phone down, and back away from the “tripod”. Don’t touch your phone for a good 15 seconds, just to be sure.

You will not be disappointed in the results, let me assure you.

As artists, we can often feel like we’ve plateaued on our progress because of lack of time, or resources. Not every artist has the time to go to art classes, and not every artist has the money to attend art-school and receive a proper critique. 

That’s why I’ve created this blog! Introducing the… 

The Redline Station is a blog that is dedicated to helping artists. If an artist is struggling with anatomy, or would like a critique on their art, they can submit the art using the SUBMIT YOUR ART button. Then, one of our moderator artists will pick up their piece and do a redline of it to help them better see the places that need fixing.

What’s a redline?

Good question!  A redline is when an artist will draw directly over a piece of art in order to show what the mistakes in anatomy are. By seeing the comparison of the art itself (at a lower opacity) and of the more accurate anatomical example, the artist can more quickly improve their drawing.

Our artists will take your submitted drawing and give you a redline. They will then post it to the blog alongside the original to help you compare the two and easily see what needs to be done. It’ll look somewhat like this!

Q: Can I submit anything? 

A: Yes! Any type of art, human or animal is okay! The only thing that’s not okay is gore and pornography. The posts will need to be PG-13. (Kissing and suggestive scenes are okay, however.)

Q: Will you redline if the drawing is in my style? 

A: Yes! Anime style, cartoony style drawings are also okay. The idea isn’t to fix the drawing to look more like ‘realism’, but to fix it to make it look more believable within the frame of style it’s already in.

Q: How many drawings can I submit for redlining?

A: For the time being, I’m the only one running the blog… In order to keep my sanity, I will accept only one submission per person and only keep submissions open for a limited time until I get more help. Which brings us to our next point…

In context with this post on sigil making, you need to break up letters into their basic shapes. I’ve gotten a few messages from people who don’t know how to do that, which is totally understandable, so here’s a guide. I didn’t include vowels because you don’t use vowels when making this kind of sigil.

I don’t really know what people generally call this method of sigil making, so I’m just calling it “Letter Shaping” because you’re using the basic shapes from certain letters. This is the most common form of sigil making, and it allows the most creative influence. As you see above the sigils are for nearly the same thing, yet the sigils came out completely different. Not because the purpose was different, but because I approached them both a different creative way, and that’s what I like so much about this method. There’s a lot of freedom and personalization involved.

I got pretty fed up with looking for words to replace said because they weren’t sorted in a way I could easily use/find them for the right time. So I did some myself.

In my experience, it’s way more effective than searching through Tumblr

and then write a direct quote (could be a fraction of a sentence) into the quotations, I’ve been doing this for years, and it’s so useful, it works like 99% of the time 

ohh god I don’t think my characters are particularly consistent (I actually find consistently pretty overrated) but I think just think of their features and the structures of their face and body. simplify their shapes - as long as the silhouette and personality are recognizable, the character is recognizable!

Its true that these people give real “critiques”, but that’s only to people who fucking ask. Not everyone gets treated the same.

What is this? Its theft and bullying. Sure, they may not be claiming the art as their own, but theyre reposting shit without the original artist’s consent, even if the original post downright fucking says to not repost. They claim its not bullying because its “their straight forward opinion” that may be true, but even if bullying isn’t your intent, it comes off as bullying. Maybe if they didn’t say it so damn harshly people wouldn’t hate you huh 🤔 Making fun of something that is STYLIZED is not critique.

These types of actions, and These types of accounts in general, cannot be fucking excused. So What if the art is bad? What the fuck is wrong with simply telling them what they need to work on? These people aren’t helping anybody. Critique is not making fun of something. Critique is knowing what is wrong AND right with the piece; its supposed to help artists grow, NOT SHAME THEM. I don’t give a shit if this is “Just your opinion uwu”, don’t fucking do this bullshit. Yes, its true that people can and WILL get negative feedback on their art, but when it gets practically stolen from you, and reuploaded to a blog that’s dedicated to “laughably bad art”, that might hurt than a simple fucking comment, huh?

Front View

1. the front view starts off as a trapezoid. with the right side being the inside of the foot.

2. Add in the ankle and curved line for the bottom of the toes. The inside of the ankle appears smaller and higher than the outside. To show depth, start the big toe a little to the left of the inside of the foot

3. Mark where the toes are going to separate, starting with the big toe. Then divide the remaining area in half, then divide it in half again. You get 4 seperate areas for the little toes

4. Draw in curved lines for the toes and make sure the tops of the lines are going up and to the right

Erase away the guidelines!

Side View

1. Start off with a right triangle

2. Add another traingle to the right side to show where the heel is going. Draw a line at the pointy end of the main triangle to mark where the toes will start

3. Draw in an arch about halfway through the large part of the triangle. Connect it to the toe line with a curve for the ball of the foot and to the edge of the “heel triangle” with another curve for the heel.

4. Draw in the big toe and make sure the lines form a hill where the bottom of the toe meets the rest of the foot

*Note: I remember this in valleys and hills. There are “valleys” at the bottom of the toe, ball of the foot, and heel. There are hills where the toe meets the rest of the foot and between the ball of the foot and the heel. So going from toe to heel it is: valley, hill, valley, hill, valley.

Green=valley; blue=hill

5. Last is the leg and the ankle! The part connecting to the heel is straighter than the front. The front of the leg has a sharper curve where it connects to the foot.

Then just erase away the guide lines!
