Ohana means family

San Francisco, a city full of life. The city is filled with amazing people, amazing people full of secrets. There’s the family that seems to keep inheriting strange ice powers that can allow an outdoor ice rink in the middle of July, but also freeze a person for years, and there’s a boy who seems to be able to grant wishes. But would you like to know the strangest thing yet? These families didn’t appear until about twenty-something years ago.

There doesn’t seem to be any sort of pattern to the families. Some are magical, some are not. To the rest of the world, they seem like normal, everyday people, from families that have been in San Francisco for many, many more years than they actually have been. And the family members themselves seem to think that they’ve been in San Francisco much longer than they have been.

You see, that year, twenty-something years ago, the Evil Queen cast a spell on the Enchanted Forest in hopes of getting her happy ending. However, rather than giving herself instant happiness, she whisked the entire land away from the Enchanted Forest and landed them in San Francisco, memories of their former home long gone. Even the Queen’s memories were forgotten, and now, it’s up to these fairy tale families’ children to discover the truth and return their people to the Enchanted Forest. But even when they learn the truth, will those who grew up in San Francisco want to return to the Enchanted Forest?

Mathius Lykke is an 17/18 year old junior/senior in high school and is the child of Ariel and Eric. He thinks his family is from Copenhagen, Denmark and looks a lot like Cameron Monaghan.

Mathius grew up as the youngest of four; his older siblings were all sisters. Every sister had far ambitions of traveling away from home and seeing the world. Each one ventured off to California for their college years to the point where Mathius felt as if he couldn’t. With each sibling leaving the nest, he sensed his parents getting sadder. His mother had always been attached to family and had abandonment issues from when her family disowned her as a teenager when she got pregnant. He knew that Ariel was sad to see each daughter venture away from home and couldn’t imagine doing the same, though that’s really what he wanted.

Luckily for him, Ariel and Eric made the decision to move to San Francisco, California after Astrid, their youngest daughter, made the decision to move there along with her two older sisters. While Mathius was excited to finally have the opportunity to explore without the feeling that he was abandoning his parents, he also felt even more restricted, as he had less excuse to leave now more than ever as his parents had already moved for one sibling; he expected them to be even less understanding if he wanted to move any other place else.

This feeling of being closed in caused Mathius to grow a sense of resentment for his three older sisters as well as his parents. He began to close himself in with his own collection of goods he’d grown throughout childhood, after receiving the collecting gene from his mother. His rock collection was his pride and joy, having started it when he was just three years old and built it with any shiny rocks or arrowhead looking rocks that caught his eye. Geology became a natural interest for him. Textbooks fill his bookshelf at home. He wouldn’t leave for days on end during vacations; instead, he’d read from dawn until sundown, hardly coming out of his room.

When it comes to his personality, he tends to be shy. He is humble, but he’s very introverted and socially awkward when it comes to meeting anybody. His sisters were always more sociable than he was, and often he’s pressured into outings by them and his parents that he’s more than reluctant to attend. He’s closest to Aberdeen, as she’s more like him in this regard and understands his aversion to social contact.

Alden Bellerose is a 21 year old senior in USF and is the child of Princess Aurora and Phillip. He thinks his family is from Boston, Massachusetts and looks a lot like Austin Butler.

Aurora always encouraged her children to get to know the arts. Alden did better than most. After attending a couple of his older sister’s dance classes, his parents realized that he had a knack for the sport as well and enrolled him in ballet and jazz as well. He was a natural, dancing around the house with his older sister.

Unfortunately, as Alden grew up he grew more self-conscious about his non-traditionally masculine hobbies. His best friend bought him a skateboard one year for a birthday, which became his new favorite hobby, much to his mother’s displeasure. He transferred many of the tricks he’d learned all those years in dancing to his skateboard becoming a natural almost immediately. While skateboarding became a new passion and hobby, he never left dance in the past. If anything, he expanded from ballet and jazz into hip-hop. From there, he made the jump into musical theater throughout his middle school and high school years. He became a heartthrob to his female peers with his beautiful voice and graceful dance moves, though his male peers liked making sure they didn’t consider him “man” enough.

Nadia Farah is a 20 year old Neuroscience student at UC - Berkley and is the child of Jasmine and Aladdin. She thinks her family is from Washington D.C. and looks a lot like Emeraude Toubia. She is taken.

Nadia’s parents were more liberal than a lot of her friends’ parents. They never pressured her to go into science; neuroscience and psych work was something that Nadia naturally excelled at. However, when it came to Nadia’s personal life, her father was very overprotective. In her first year of high school, it didn’t really make a difference to her. She agreed that she should take her studies more seriously than boys. Though soon, she found herself intrigued with all things romantic and fairytale-esque. She kept her grades up while sneaking out with friends to visit music clubs on U street at night, and her parents only dreaded the time when she’d be going away to college when they’d have less control of what she did at night. Her mother was more understanding, trying to get Nadia to understand the risks of her nighttime behavior, but understanding the temptations a young girl having been rather rebellious at one point on her own. 

Nadia’s habits and curiosity got the better of her when a Young Patriot decided it was his duty to teach all Arabs a lesson. Nadia lived, however with several broken ribs and a more vengeful outlook on those who pigeon-holed her into a stereotype. While she wanted bloody revenge, her parents thought it would be better to move. They moved her and her younger sister Manal to San Francisco at the end of Nadia’s senior year of high school. Nadia had already been accepted at UC-Berkeley, so her parents thought this a perfect opportunity to start both daughters over in a new environment.
