I am so grateful to KC for showing so many young men what it looks like to be confronted by your own bad behavior, acknowledge it, and take accountability.
So many men I know are too scared to accept that they were wrong. Even when they apologize they tell themselves they weren't really wrong, or it wasn't really them, or it wasn't really their fault.

So he went on to tell her about colorism like she was fucking unaware? Saying shit like people have negative connotations about women that look like you. Women I know that look like you feel insecure about it.
And her demeanor changes. She pulls away from him, turns her body away, looks away, her tone of voice changes and she says she did feel insecure when she was younger, but then reiterates she doesn't feel insecure about it now.
And that's when he swoops in with the compliments telling her she's the blueprint.
Like he literally tried to make her feel insecure and question her value to try to make her dependent on him for validation and think he was her only option.

I love the idea that the Eridians briefly think that Rocky Came Back Wrong.

He also talks so fucking slow and enunciates like his beautiful family is 20 years old. But when Grace is done being scurvy and rickets ridden and is capable of joining the thrum outside his earth enclosure, they realize Rocky spent a few years talking to a slow as fuck human incapable of converting to Eridian seconds in his head. He's pausing to congugate and he frequently needs words above a 1st grade level defined to him.

One of my favorite things about this book was that the aliens didn't use a base-10 number system. It always drives me insane when the aliens all happen to use base-10. I'm reading a book on meditation and they describe being able to step back from your thinking like the space behind a waterfall. And you can see your thoughts pour by but you're not in them, you're watching them.
But what do you do when your thoughts aren't a waterfall? They're a fucking ocean in a storm and they're pulling you down and the only time you can witness it is in the brief moments where you get your head above water before it drags you back down? And in that moment you just see the enormity of it all around you and it's not a waterfall it's everything and you're fucked, you're just totally fucked because there is no land and no place safe for you to stand and witness it it's going to win it was always going to win.
