Jennifer Hubbard, Try Not to Breathe
idk what it is about pride and prejudice thatâs so appealing. maybe itâs the fantasy of telling a man heâs self centred and arrogant and he believes it and changes for the better
âShe herself is a haunted house. She does not possess herself; her ancestors sometimes come and peer out of the windows of her eyes and that is very frightening.â

âI wonder if the dead know we are writing about them. I wonder if the missing girl wanted to be a symbol. I worry that to be a poet is to sit and wait for beautiful things to die. To exploit distance. To steal their flight. To wring murder into myth, to retell itââ

one of my favorite lines.
Fatimaâs Letter (Alia Syed, 1991)
idk i just wanna sit in a dark library in an oversized sweater and smile at my lover over the top of my book as a storm rages on outside and a fire crackles in the fireplace and i feel warm and safe and loved is that too much to ask for

My Mother asks why Iâm like this â why I continue to let my pain set me on fire and why I do nothing while it burnsâ how do I tell her that the only time I feel alive is when the flames reach my neck and the only time I find peace is in the fire, in the flames, in the burning of who I am. My Mother asks why I let people take pieces of me when they leave, to leave yourself with so little is not livingâ how do I tell her that this body I carry is not mine and that it belongs to the first man who touched it without my permission. My Mother tells me I am lucky to survive and that the ambulance got there just in timeâ how do I tell her that I donât feel lucky, that they should of let me die.

The PataxĂł people are under attack by the Brazilian government!
Whatâs happening? The Brazilian government has decided to surprise 24 PataxĂł families with an eviction from their legally owned land to make way for a flight school. The Bolsonaro regime has systematically undermined all indigenous government organizations literally since his first day in office and thus the PataxĂł people have next to no legal recourse to stop this. They are fighting for their lives during a pandemic. Brazil has the second highest covid-19 cases and deaths. Here is more information about this in English.
How can you help?Â
Here are links to a script you can send to Judge Pablo Baldivies, the judge responsible for this ruling, at [email protected] [ENGLISH SCRIPT/PORTUGUESE SCRIPT] (source)
Here is a fundraiser to keep the PataxĂł people afloat during this pandemic. The USD to Brazilian Real exchange rate is extremely favorable so a small amount goes a long way! Itâs being run by the PataxĂł Youth organization so please check out their English language twitter account.
Message the flight school on their facebook account and tell them this is unacceptable!
Use the #pataxoresiste #PataxoPedeSocorro hashtags on Twitter in tweets and follow them to stay updated on the situation as it is changing every hour!
Sign this petition!
We cannot let the Brazilian government evict these families off of their land. Please do what you can even if itâs just spreading the word about this situation!
