no mom i'm not outwardly expressing my stress because i'm using some sort of secret manipulation tactic to make you do what i want and stop doing my homework, it's because i have a disability that makes it much more difficult to do everyday tasks, and i'm letting myself stop holding it in until the last minute for the sake of you and dad's expectations

no mom i'm not talking back to you i am asking about your motives because i respect you as a parent, person, but not as a figure of ultimate unquestionable authority, and i am old enough to have skepticism and opinions
no dad i'm not being rude when i'm telling you to lower your voice when you're helping me with homework, and i am grateful for you going out of your way to do this, it's just sometimes your voice echoes off the wall of the dining room and it's a little distracting and off-putting to me, i just want to hear you better when you speak without worrying about the noise
yes mom i understand you have a tank that needs to be filled up with the kind of affection you need, and i do my best to show my love in the ways you want me to, but it's very hard for me to pour water into your tank after draining mine empty on a daily basis. i try, though, and i love you. please understand.
