No but guys. I cannot tell you how much Morgan loves Clarissa.
John is Jedikiah’s son, Morgan knew this. That made John family before it ever made him a friend. For both of them, I think.
But Clari, Clari was her first friend, her first friend in a long long time. Because Morgan didn’t have to hide her powers from Clarissa, and they are a huge part of the force that has shaped her. And she didn’t have to hide or lie about Jedikiah and he is a large, central force in her life. And she hasn’t had someone she didn’t have to lie to about huge parts of who she was, other than Jedikiah, in a long time. She’s known other paranormals, she all but states that to Jedikiah on scene, but she doesn’t know them NOW. Clarissa is her first friend since she MET Jedikiah, and maybe longer - and they have been together for years.
And when Clari first discovered Morgan was pregnant, they had those conversations.
“Do you want to BE pregnant Morgan?” I don’t know. I don’t know. I-I… “Do you want to go to a doctor to be sure-sure?” Yes. Yes. God yes. “Do you want me to go with you?” Yes please. “Do you want to tell anyone?” No. Please. Don’t anyone. Just don’t. They…what will they do? “If someone hurts you, I’ll hurt them worse.”
And Clari meant it, not because she loved Morgan more than the others, but because Morgan was in such a vulnerable position. Because she was scared and alone and without any real power (yet) and people take advantage of people, especially women, in that situation. And fuck no if Clarissa was going to allow that to happen to Morgan. More conversations later, after a nurse in a clinic confirms Morgan’s pregnancy, Clari holding her hand, and they work out how far along she is (roughly ten weeks), does an ultrasound to confirm (yes, ten and four/five days), she asks if Morgan wants to see it or hear the heartbeat. She does, Clarissa there with her.
There are more conversations when they get back.
“Well, do you know what you want to do now?” And it’s too big a question, Morgan just stares at Clari, doe eyed, clutching a bag of prenatal vitamins telekinetically, holding a cloth with mint oil on it to her nose to combat the nausea, and knees and other arm drawn around her protectively. “Do you want to be pregnant Morgan?” A nod, and then, softly. Yes. Yes I want to keep my baby. And it’s the first times she’s said ‘baby’, the first time she said ‘my’ because she wasn’t sure. Still isn’t sure of so much, but this is her’s, dammit, and she’s lost to much to give up more. I always wanted one or two. “Even now?” A dry, brittle laugh. Well the timing sucks. “Even Jedikiah’s?” I love him Clarissa. You don’t have to understand and I won’t try to convince you. But he loves me. We love each other. He’s not what he let’s others see. Clarissa isn’t sure about that, she hates the fucker for what he’s done. But this isn’t her, this is Morgan. “Do you want to tell him?” No. No, it’s too dangerous. And Morgan doesn’t say for who.
And so on they go.
Morgan becomes the ‘spokesperson’ of sorts, we see that. But it’s not because she’s universally well liked. Not at all. Some of them come to like her, as they get to know her. She’s warm and loving and supportive. But to others, she’s tainted, at best, by Jedikiah’s touch and affections. Worse, unlike John, she doesn’t reject him. Others aren’t sure she isn’t a spy planted by Jedikiah. Regardless she could bring the wraith of Ultra down on them, so they don’t dare touch her.
She gains friends, in Irene. In Stephen. (Or Stephanie, or both.) In Kate. In Laim. Charlotte.
But her first friend was Clarissa.
