@sigridgoogles, your hair is like spun gold, itâs beautiful *runs fingers through your hair* Would you prefer the braids smaller, or bigger?
*I moan as Fili touches my hair* What? Oh.. Ummm⌠Whatever you think is most appropriate to the situation. Iâll trust you, Fili.
Alright then, a medium one it is. *begins separating hair on the right side of you head* This first bead has the rune for âjoyâ on it, because you make me the happiest dwarf alive. *braids bead in*
*tries not to moan again as Fili works with my hair* Is it the beads or the braids that signifies a courtship?
Both, actually. The beads symbolise the union of the couple, while the braids are for who the other half is. So, Iâm braiding both âPrinceâ and âFirst Sonâ into your hair, and you would braid âPrincessâ and âFirst Daughterâ into mine. *slides a second bead into the braid* This one thatâs going on is my grandmotherâs. I remember Mother told me that the bead had been carried on a necklace, until one of us were wedded.
I hope I donât lose themâŚ
Youâll have to show me how to do the braids in your hair. *I smile at the thought* What will I do for beads for you? Or will that matter?
Of course Iâll teach you, itâs another one of those old stuffy traditions. *presses a kiss to your scalp* And the braids donât need to have beads, they can have ribbons and other things braided in there.
Youâre being very patient with me, Fili. I appreciate that.
What other things? Like⌠pieces of jewelry or something?
Yes, those would work fine. Did you have soemthing in mind?
Yes. I have a bracelet. Pearls. About the only thing we had in Laketown. *I chuckle ruefully* Theyâre not precious like the gems that your people mined all those years ago. But they were plentiful⌠Do pearls have any meaning in your culture?
Pearls⌠Iâm not sure. We donât really trade in them, more focusing on things we mined. In regards to them not being âpreciousâ, it is not the wealth of the gem or decoration, it is the worth. There is no point layering braids in meaningless gold when your familyâs beads are there instead.
*I frown as he speaks* Well, it⌠the pearls⌠belonged to my mother. She gave them to me on my birthday⌠before she died. *I sigh* I donât know now if they would suit⌠They werenât special or anything. Just a gift. *I shrug*
The pearls belonged to your mother. That already makes them more valuable than anything you could find in this mountain. They are a beautiful gift, and I would be honoured to wear them.
*I smile and look down as he speaks* You are too kind. And too sweet, Fili. *I run my finger over the row of tiny pearls* Youâll have to show me what braid to use for your hair.
Well, there are two of them, and I, unfortunately, am not too familiar with âoldest sisterâ, as I have no sister to learn with. I do know âprincessâ, however, as my mother wears it. Maybe we could ask my mother, she must know.
normally iâd be happy to help, but iâm on my way back to ered luin at the moment to help organize the last of the relocation for our people - however, you do have access to google, which will surely have information on the common familial position braids
AmaaaaaaaaaaaaadâŚ
Well, I guess I could just improvise, seeing as I have no hands free to google with. Iâm putting in my grandmotherâs bead, now *slides bead in place*
*sits and listens to the two* *tries not to giggle when Fili whines*
And why didnât I think of google? I wasnât aware your cultural stuff was on google. Is it a secret google that I donât know about?
things can be found through the normal google, but the search must be made in khuzdul, and you need to be logged in on a dwarf account for the results to appear. the sites themselves are all in khuzdul as well
