On November 24th, 2018, I posted a list of major deletions of sites or of content on sites that stripped fandom of its history. A bunch of pro-shipper blogs had just been deleted, and people were nervous. I suppose I was thinking “All this has happened before…”

On December 3rd, 2018, Tumblr’s Department of Irony announced the NSFW ban. Thanks for providing this salutary lesson to The Youth and a billion reblogs to me, I guess.

Today, we have AO3 for writing. Audio, images, and video are in as much danger as ever, yet fans attack AO3 every donation drive. For those of you who forget our past…

This is only a small taste of the many times that:

Fannish moderators got bored, ran out of money, or had a falling out, deleting a site/list/forum along the way.

Sites got bought out and closed for being unprofitable.

Fandom got hit as governments targeted piracy or political dissidents.

Fans grudge reported each other.

Official forums got deleted when the canon finished.

It’s not always malicious. It’s not always about us. But we lose every time.

Some of these purges hit everyone. Many of them hit m/m content specifically or female gaze-y material in general. This is why antis are dead wrong. This is why anti-fujoshi policies end up being anti-m/m policies. This is why we need clear labeling, not content restrictions.

This is why we need AO3.

This is a really great question! (And one that I’m extremely happy to answer because size kink is my jam, man.)

I went back and rewatched the Jötunheim scenes from Thor (2011) to get a better idea of just how big these frost giants are, and also to see if I could grab some stills to analyze. After just a few minutes I discovered that the frost giants really aren’t so “giant” after all. (Props to the effects department, especially the sound mixers, who were able to make these guys feel a lot bigger than they actually were onscreen.)

I took this screencap into Photoshop to do some measuring and comparing:

I duplicated Loki’s image and superimposed it onto the jötunn’s, then I adjusted the scale of Loki’s face until it matched. 

Using this technique, I was able to determine that frost giants are about 15% larger than Aesir (and humans, and Vanir, and all the other races of man-like people).

That’s really not that much of a size difference at all. Even among adult humans, a 15% size difference is quite common. To give you a better idea, that’s roughly like a 5’5” person (165cm) standing beside a 6’3” (190cm) person.

Of course, it’s not just about height, but build, too. The frost giants are broad and packed with muscle, what you might call “an extremely athletic” body type. Still, there was a greater size and build difference between Shaquille O'Neal (7’1” or 216cm) and his former girlfriend Nicole “Hoopz” Alexander (5’2” or 157cm) than there is between humans and frost giants.

This ^ represents a size difference of about 37.6%, way more than the measly 15% difference between humans and frost giants. (This is roughly the same scale I use for Thor and Loki in The Little Frost Troll, by the way. Teeny tiny troll and great big man. I did tell you that size kink is my jam, man.)

So, yes, I believe it is possible for Loki to comfortably have sex with a full-sized frost giant, get pregnant, and carry a full-sized jötunn baby to term. He might encounter some difficulties during childbirth, perhaps requiring a Caesarean section if he can’t get the ligaments in his pelvis to relax enough to allow the baby’s head to pass through the pelvic inlet (or is it the outlet? I don’t know, I’m a writer, not a doctor). But I think he could deliver and care for a normal-sized baby frost giant.

For the record, the measurements for the largest baby ever born were 23 lbs 9 oz (10.7 kg) and nearly 30 inches long (76 cm). The average baby these days is about 7 lbs 3 oz (3.3 kg) and 19.5 inches (49.5 cm) long. So a frost giant baby, 15% larger than an average baby, would be about 8.4 lbs (3.8 kg) and 22.4 inches (56.9 cm). That’s not even really remarkable by human standards. 

Furthermore, there’s this (source):

[...] there are many contributors to birth size. Thus, it’s not possible to accurately predict childhood or adult size from how big or small your baby was at birth. A tiny newborn won’t necessarily be a petite adult, and a large baby isn’t guaranteed to grow up to be a football player.

So Loki could very well give birth to a "runty” baby who then grows up to be a full-sized frost giant. Or vice versa, a big frosty baby who stays small. Perhaps this might be what happened to Loki. Maybe he was actually a normal-sized frost giant baby who never grew, and Odin mistakenly thought he was a newborn when in truth he might have been closer to a toddler. Who knows? But it’s fun to think about.

In conclusion, anon, according to my very rudimentary calculations, the frost giants of the MCU are indeed sexually compatible with Loki and other mannfólk.

As for the frost giants in the comics... not a snowball’s chance in Muspelheim, I say.
