Gordo has always considered himself a freethinker; his innate sense of self and refusal to just go with the grain in attempt to fit in, is something he prides himself on. Sometimes his exasperation with the popular crowd and what's trending can make him seem like a bit of a hipsterâhe liked this genre of music before it was "cool" or despite the fact that it wasn't, but he's just a guy who knows that his tastes don't necessarily have to align with everyone else's.
He doesn't really care if he's seen as a dork or a nerd, because there's not actually anything bad about being smartâand in his opinion the people who refuse to partake in something just because it'll make them look like a loser, are really the unhappiest of all.
It can be challenging sometimes, being friends with Lizzie and Miranda who care a lot more what others think of them, but he's always been totally loyal to them and just wants to see them happy at the same time.
Gordo was always ahead in school, and at one point was offered the opportunity to skip a grade and enter high school a year earlyâbut he eventually decided to stay with his peers. While he's very academically inclined, he also realized that jumping one year ahead in school to start his future prospects early, wasn't worth missing out on his closest friendships for all those years.
He's been passionate about film as long as he can remember, and has been taping "documentaries" about his life and those of his friends and classmates since at least middle school, if not earlier, when all he had was a little camcorder to his name. After studying for a film degree in college, he still knows there's so much more to learn about the art and the business, and his drive to become a director is only bolstered.
There was a time when he got really into Dungeons and Dragons, to the point where it was affecting his grades in school and his friends basically had to stage an intervention to bring him back to the real world. Since then, he's careful about letting himself get too wrapped up in fantasy, but it would be a lie to say he's not tempted by Excelsior Comics & Tabletop Games every time he passes the store in the mall.
Lizzie has always been his best friendâthey've known each other since they were in diapersâbut he was also good friends with Miranda too. After he and Lizzie dated and broke up at the end of high school, Gordo grew a lot closer to Miranda than before, not because they had broken up on bad terms or things were terribly awkward between them, but just because his feelings for Lizzie remained for a few years after that and it was just easier to be around Miranda sometimes for that reason.
Actually, it's hard to say that he's ever truly moved on from Lizzie. He's done his best, because it was necessaryâhe couldn't just stay in love with his friend forever even while they continued living their own lives and chasing their own dreams. Besides, first loves don't usually work out, so it's really no big deal. Maybe he'll find someone else who makes him feel the same way eventually. But at least a part of his heart will always belong to Lizzie McGuire, no matter how much time passes.
